Destiny Exotic weapons - thorn
Overall I've been quite pleased with Bungie's latest product: Destiny. The gameplay is solid and the universe (even though it is still in its infancy) is already feeling very complete. However, one issue I have found is with the exotic weapon bounties. Right now I have the "Thorn" bounty active. Doing missions on heroic difficulty or killing endless enemies on the moon is certainly no issue, but the current objective it gives me is "use void damage to defeat guardians in the crucible. Death will slow your progress." That last bit is potentially the greatest understatement I've seen in a game to date. I've played halo, fear, l4d, cod etc. all of the classics and been ranked pretty decently in all at some point. Destiny's crucible favors the grinder to begin with, but to boot when faced with a challenge, they disencourage the less skillful with punishing crucible deaths. Let me make this clear again HAVING A NEGATIVE K/D IN CRUCIBLE WILL DISALLOW PROGRESS ON THE THORN BOUNTY. If anyone has thoughts on this or better ways (Other than being a lvl 28 warlock) to complete this bounty, please let me know. Thanks.

I finished it this weekend. A few strong matches and I had the 500 void points finished. In addition I am a good player, but far from the best and I did ALL the void points solo. It really wasn't bad, just a little patience and you will have it! ALSO, the last part killing Xyor the Unwed was EASY. I just finished it yesterday with only myself and a Defender (only 2, not a full fire team). We were catious, wiped only once on the waves section, and hugged the left side of the room with the rocks to avoid Phogoth and add fire. Retreated to the entrance hallway just past the Shrieker when we got overwhelmed. It was actually not bad! Bring lots of Solar and Arc damage to get rid of knight and Wizard shields. My defender buddy had an Arc fusion gun and focused on the knights, I had 77 Wizard with a solar rocket launcher and I was gunslinger (normally i am bladedancer) so wizards were a little more managable.

It's not impossible if you don't suck. I managed to get 309 in 45 minutes on Salvage alone, probably would have finished it if I was playing Control/Clash and didn't have to give up the TV.

Give me $20 and I'll do it for you. Each bounty follows the same trend. Dominate in PvE, Dominate in PvP and you will be rewarded. Exotics are a feat of strength, get used to both

You have even have more of an advantage being a Warlock, since your grenades and supers will count too. Me? I'm a Hunter, who has no void abilities, and I've done that part of the bounty. I don't even have a good K/D on this game.

Being a defender titan using void shotty and machine gun? That's how I did it. Play control or clash because assists count too. Kill more than you die and you should get it done within 25 games.

I did it this morning in under 2 hours. Void shotty and void sniper. +5 points a kill -2 per death. Just don't die lol

Use heavy machine gun and fusion riffle. Each kill is worth 5 and death 2. So going negative by a bit is not a problem. My brother sucks at this game and completed this mission. I mean he usually goes .4 to .1. It will just take time

You can have something like a .6 k/d and still complete the bounty. Find yourself a nice void shotgun or fusion rifle and a void heavy weapon and you're set. I used a fusion rifle and managed to complete that part of the bounty in a few hours. The strike is harder.

You can do it. You just need to try harder. I am mainly a Vanguard player and rarely play Crucible. I actually got better. Had a void shotgun, fusion, sniper rifle, and rocket launcher. One game I had a .78 K/D and the next I had a 4 K/D. Keep trying it and you will eventually improve and also might get lucky and be in a game with people worst than you instead of the try hard elitists who revolve on only crucible and not vanguard.

I finally finished my Thorn bounty. It sucks when you are playing as a hunter and can't stand PvP. Why didn't Bungie put the choice of doing PvP stuff or PvE stuff to fully complete the bounties?

You can have a negative k/d and still do the bounty. You're misinformed.

Level 28 warlock here, can confirm crucible is not easy at all for me.

I got the thorn, and I am a warlock but most of my kills came from using a fusion rifle and camping out in certain spots on certain maps. But you dont NEED a positive k.d. if you get 2 deaths per kill you will still go up one point. So it will be a slooooow crawl to the finish but as long as you never go below .5 k.d. you will always get one point per kill. Best advice is use a fusion rifle, and get void rockets and always pick up heavy ammo

It's only really tough when you don't have a secondary weapon that offers void damage. However it is extremely difficult personally.

I got this bounty finished in like 10 games as a hunter and I am by no means an amazing crucible player. Find a secondary and heavy weapon that does void. Doesn't matter if its blue or purple and just use it the whole game. Kills count as 5 points and deaths subtract 3. Hell use a fusion rifle or a sniper aaand just hang back. The bounty that's pissing me off currently is dismantling 10 blue or better fusion rifles. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and have only found 6

Acually even if you die twice for every kill you'd still get it with a negative KDR it just takes a long time

2 RepliesI too am absolutely frustrated with this. As a hunter I have only special and heavy for void damage... This limit makes it incredibly hard to guarantee kills. And even if I do get a good k/d ratio, if I didn't use the right weapon, I still lose points... I have tried and tried. I get up there and then lose progress all due to better opponents or poor luck. At the moment, I seriously want to just drop the bounty and pick it back up on my titan or warlock...

1 Replyhere we go with filthy casuals crying because a certain bounty is too hard. is anyone pissed how they had to grind the game to reach 25+ and now, since casuals spam these boards crying, bungie has decided to gift them legendaries without doing anything challenging. it wont be long until guns, such as the thorn, will be given to these cry babies without doing 1 single part of the requirements needed to obtain it.

1 ReplyI usually go 1.5+ K/D so i wont see a problem with this bounty. Its just time consuming because in total its 100kills/0deaths to fully get it. But it will take more than 100 kills seeing as tjough you're bound to die atleast once in a match. I need to find a shotgun with void damage because a sniper would suck on small maps. Already have a void rocket launcher . Dislike fusion rifles. Wish they made element primary guns. Also helps that as a warlock i have void damage.

Well if you [b]consistently[/b] get a negative K/D ratio that is 1:3 or more then yes you will not be able to do this part of the bounty. You need to score 500 "points" in the crucible using Void damage. You get 5 points for kills/assisted kills using void damage and lose 2 when you die. So if you get 1 kill and die 3 times you are at -1 point technically. So you basically just need to keep your K/D ratio above 1:3. It is exceptionally grindy, especially if you are no good at PvP (like myself). If this part bothers you the Xyor the Unwed part will probably drive you mad.

I'm not fantastic at crucible, but cranked this bounty out in one sitting, only took a few hours. The crucible part was the hardest, but if you exclusively use void weapons and get higher than 0.50 KD then you will eventually get it done. 5 points per kill and -2 points per death, so as long as you get a kill for every 2 deaths, you still get 1 point towards the bounty. Might take a few matches to adjust your play style to suit, but you will get there, just keep at it mate!
