Proof that Bungie cut content

So, information about cut content have been leaked and users on Neogaf have posted this. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=903125 Apperently a persons game glitched and allowed him to see all the content as locked, including the content we're not "allowed" to see yet. Like the DLC missions, Strikes and Raids. I quote:
The first DLC will include 4-5 missions, 2 strikes(one on earth, one on Mars), 1 raid(on Moon) and 3 crucible maps. Second DLC there is less details but I assume again 4-5 missions, 2 strikes, and 1 raid(which takes place in the reef)
Where all of this is on disc but have to be unlocked by buying the Season Pass/DLC. So, there you have your proof. Bungie have cut content from the game and locked it for us to make us buy their Season Pass. In my opinion that is a very cheap move. Opinions/Further discussions? Please bump this thread as much as you can to spread the truth. Edit: Further proof that most of the DLC is already on Disc. (From Neogaf)
Originally Posted by HykCraft Sorry if this was already posted... but here you go: Expansion II is only 9.5 MB https://store.xbox.com/en-us/Xbox-One/Dlc/Destiny-Expansion-II-House-of-Wolves/2af987e3-ba25-4d1b-82cb-1fbe02e2ea07
Link is working again Picture of it if it would go down again: http://i.imgur.com/mOMpeif.png Edit2: KICHZY posted a interesting video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PBunIaaPsM
Edit3: To the people defending this. How are you okay with this kind of stuff? Content being on the disc that you bought but can't use because they will sell it to you again in the Expansion Pass. This content should/already is in the game but is locked. Edit4: People saying we're jumping to conclusions, that these areas are not even close to being finished and all that. Thing is. Since the areas are already there(some with enemies) they could have easily have included them in the game. These areas were already in as far back as the alpha. Which means they had plenty of time to actually finish it all. (If they aren't already finished and Bungie are just waiting to release the rest of it to the people with the expansion pass) These missions and areas should/could have been in the final game but were most likely cut to be sold later as DLC. The areas already in the game proves this by showing us areas that are locked where they probably later only will unlock the missions for those areas. As stated in Edit1 "Expansion II is only 9.5 MB" which most likely is just a "key" to unlock the on disc "DLC". Looking at the lack of content Destiny have right now it could have used this content on release instead. Edit5: Seeing that this thread now have about 380 replies(and still going) where the majority are either upset or angry at Bungie for doing this thing, maybe Bungie should address this in an official blog post and update us on how it actually is. Is this DLC content on disc which needs a bought "key" aka expansion pass or will this later be released for free like the Iron banner and Queen's Wrath events? Bungie, take a look at your fanbase/community, more than half of them are disappointed in the way you're doing business with Destiny. Edit6: A reddit post going over everything that changed with Destiny over the last year: http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2hqmkb/how_destinys_content_completely_changed_over_the Same post but on Bungie.net: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/70822032/0/0 It goes through everything that was in the game before release but later on got taken out for DLC or removed completely. Edit7: The Xbox Expansion Pass link is up again: https://store.xbox.com/en-us/Xbox-One/Dlc/Destiny-Expansion-II-House-of-Wolves/2af987e3-ba25-4d1b-82cb-1fbe02e2ea07 9.5MB I have a picture too: http://i.imgur.com/mOMpeif.png Edit8: lavaman2302 posted a link to the ps store showing us the same explansion.
Also check this out https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/addons/destiny-expansion-i-the-dark-below/cid=UP0002-BLUS31181_00-DESTINYEXPNPACK1?emcid=ps-ga-872&utm_medium=Paid_Search_{ps}&utm_campaign=Games&utm_source=Google&utm_term=ps-ga-872&utm_content=Brand
Pictures of it: http://i.imgur.com/OrfdFdA.png http://i.imgur.com/MmbxruY.png It says 6.9 MB on there. Also a very small download. Most likely a "key". They promise us "New Story and Cooperative Areas to explore" but we all know those areas aren't actually new lol Plenty of people have already been in them. Edit9: Quote from Neogaf worth reading:

I highly doubt the devs just cut complete shit out to sell later.
And that's probably what they want you to think. You'd be surprised what kind of crap they'd spin. Cutting content out of a game and then randomly blasting it into the market in pieces as DLC is profitable, so they'll do it. It's easy for them. We have no evidence to suggest they aren't doing this. I'm much more inclined to say this is exactly what they're doing based on what we're seeing. Thank god I didn't buy into this game. Pulled out last year when i realised what they were saying and what they were showing just didn't match. The $500m gave me a good laugh though. What a waste. But hats down to Activision, it all worked perfectly. Expect other companies to follow this trend. The future is bright!
Edit10: wazzanut wrote a reply worth reading:
Its like paying to get into Disneyland and then being told you have to pay extra to ride the best rides. People who dont complain about this place less value in money and self respect. I like the idea of releasing content over time to help keep things fresh but theres hardly a main body to this game, it feels like an empty introduction to an empty world. Its like halo leftovers and its starting to smell funny... Repeating missions over and over should be proof enough to the lack of content, its been a while since i felt a little screwed over by a game.
Edit11: Another area have been found, now by Nowise10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtf3NlYhB_U As you can see it is everything is done in this one as well. All Bungie have to do is release the mission files and that's the DLC for ya. Note that Nowise10 states that this is the 2015 DLC mission. I mean, a 2015 DLC that already exist in the game. That is pure cheapness. Edit12: So, the area Nowise10 found a way into have been in the game for quite some time. This is a screenshot from a trailer released on E3 this year in June. http://i.imgur.com/4zFs3HH.png Would you look at that? http://youtu.be/hRRKtkuOeig?t=1m32s So this area have been in there since atleast E3... Edit13: Another finished looking DLC area on disc have been found: http://teambeyond.net/destiny-dlc-area-uncovered-mars/ http://youtu.be/fY_KKYQG22c Now a strike in the Black Garden area. As you can see it is a big area where you can't go because of this big energy wall, but with a sparrow you can go through it and enter the DLC area. Edit14: Another DLC area found by Corbman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgoPfuphQvw This is the Traitor's Ketch mission in the 2015 DLC. Is you can see, everything is working as it should, it just needs enemies. Edit15: Once again, a new DLC area found by Corbman. http://youtu.be/BtFey3eEzfk This is the area for the raid on the moon. Confirming that this also is on disc and only needs enemies to be added. I know no one cares anymore so I will probably stop updating this now. Since, I don't really care anymore myself. I've given up on Destiny and will move on to better games.

  • Unfortunately, the one thing you are comepletely missing, is that you didn't BUY Destiny. You bought a license to play Destiny. You do not own any software related to Destiny IN ANY WAY. You are a user, you are requesting to use Bungies software, at a price that YOU paid willingly. If you were to actually look at the box in which your disc came, you could be able to read the agreement you entered in to, when you opened the box. Have a look, it's right there on the back. That being said, you are not owed anything. You are simply surprised that you did not know how these things actually worked. Software is rarely sold as a full product (outside of open source), it is sold as a license. The software on your computer and phone, you are renting, you do not own those things. The fact that information is on the disc, yet is not available for use, means nothing. Consider for a second, that the first DLC was never intended to even be a part of the initial release, and was simply finished prior to publishing. That does not consititute "cutting" content, as you were never intended to use that part of the data. Because people have found exploits within the code in order to access parts of that data, also, means nothing. The bottom line is simple, you own nothing, you pay to use. Period. Now, for everyone complaining about having to pay for DLC in order to access that data, get serious. The $60 dollars you have invested in Destiny to this point, is less than a tank of gas where I live. Fifteen dollars is just about a pack of smokes, and a couple monsters where I live. Most of you pay around $100 dollars a month for your smartphones, another $100 for you cable/internet package, and that is before you even leave the house. Dropping a little cash on some DLC, which you were going to spend anyways, isn't breaking your bank. Or, if it is breaking your bank, don't buy the damn thing then. You people act like everyone owes you something because you are a special and unique snowflake. Truth is, nobody owes you anything, and Bungie has already given you your $60 worth. Get serious people, the conspiracy theories are getting a little out of hand.

    • Actually, this isn't an uncommon practice. The developers are done long before the game comes out. So they just keep building levels. I am looking forwards to the dlc's and the new rants that come with them lmao

    • Surely I can't be the only one that is excited to play 2 more strikes, 5 more missions, and another raid?? Likely new bounties, weapons, gear, and more replayability in both pvp and vanguard strikes list. This all sounds like standard MMO expansion fare to me. Experience from UO, EQ, Guild Wars, and DAOC.

          • As far as i know, the Icons are "place holders". You say that the second dlc is just a couple of MB? Well They are not ready maybe. First we will see how big the download file will for the First dlc. If its small, we are being -blam!-ed. If its a couple gigs, you are an Idiot. For now we have not Seen any dlc, so having aby conclusions now is just stupid. I dont say that the dlc WILL be added content, i say WE DONT KNOW YET. So stop spaming the Forums

              • I love how people bitch and moan about content on the disc being locked and then complain about, say the VoG glitches (not the exploits, not the cheap ways to win, the actual bugs that prevent progress). Did no one ever consider the framework for these areas may be done but there's still some kinks to work out. Imagine if Bungie released all of the locked content right now. Within 2 hours, the board would be flooded with topics about how broken or incomplete it is.

              • I'm curious as to what everyone thinks the alternative to this would have been? Bungie is contractually obligated to the DLC. So, given the 3 month window before game and DLC are you suggesting that they should have released everything they had them started from scratch on DLC with a 3/month launch window? Or, given that they obviously had to do some work on the DLC before launch, had they simply not had the placeholders there is all this drama avoided? Even though it would have been exactly the same thing (finished to semi-finished content that was done before launch but not included in the game) and simply forced a bigger DLC download... I'm legitimately curious.

No one has concrete proof that the data on disk is anything more than what these YouTube videos show. People also seem to be forgetting that new maps need to integrate with existing ones, so, it's a reasonable assumption that as we get closer to DLC launch, those "weekly patches" will include far more than gun adjustments and bug fixes. Seriously, though, are there actually people out there that think that $60 should buy you a ticket for 10 years worth of new content?

Please allow me to entertain you all with my own "theory". It is just as valid as this one, because it does not contain a single bit of substantive proof. Imagine, if you will, that you are looking to promote a video game that you are creating. You will, invariably, want to get the word out about it, well before release. You have substantial amounts of concept art that outlines the entire lifespan of the game; more than will every be released in the entire lifespan of that game. Some of it will be used for sequels, perhaps. Maybe some of it will be content to be delivered at a later date. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. As you progress in the development cycles of that game, you have a combination of live gameplay and cinematics that you then use to "show off" the game. Some of the cinematics are based off of the concept art, because it is a part of the larger vision. How do you actually get those cinematics into the trailer, then? Considering that it is quite common to allow the console to render cutscenes now (and I have an opinion that Bungie is doing this for a fair amount of them), it only makes sense that you use the game engine to render them. You alter a few of the dynamics of the game engine, such as altering the focal length of the virtual camera, changing its positioning, and using different lighting modes. That is how your Guardian appears in cutscenes, complete with your current equipment. But, alas. There are these areas that the marketing and production teams really want to show off, but they are not done, yet. What is a company to do? Perhaps they can create the basic maps, and then script exactly what they need into them to get the directorial vision of what that cinematic should contain. Since it is using the game engine already, let us just throw away those assets and do them over again when we need to. Wait? No? That costs extra money in the form of time for the content designers? You mean they will use 90% of that map, as it is, and just complete it when that content is closer to being delivered? Maybe they can just do something absolutely crazy like, I don't know... Ship it so that you do not have to download it all when you get your DLC! This is actually a common practice. No, I am not talking about the gaming industry. I am talking about the software industry, as a whole. And, guess what? We've done this for years, and years, and years. Assets take time and money to create. You simply don't throw them away - they exist in various stages of completeness throughout the lifecycle of a product. Whether it is maps, textures, dead code that has yet to be activated, or just about anything that takes time and money to produce, if it can be shipped, it usually is. Why, you ask? Simple. It is partially due to the amount of time that you would have to spend waiting for an update to download. It is also partially due to the amount of load that puts on the servers. If you are paying a co-lo to host your servers, which I imagine that Bungie is, chances are you are paying for used bandwidth, as well. Keeps costs down, and those costs add up when you are looking at the magnitude of millions of potential downloads. As to the size of download for the DLC, who knows? I can tell you that if it is accurate, it is not out of line. Compiled code is generally smaller than updates, when what you are talking about is really just a patch. But I can fit thousands upon thousands of lines of code in six to ten megabytes. It definitely is not some sort of "unlock key". That is just an absolutely massive file for something that trivial, that you could accomplish in a couple of hundred bytes, complete with a hefty amount of encryption, to boot. If that is the final size of the patch, it likely contains a combination of additional map data, code, raw geometry, and data files that feed the engine that you already physically installed on your console. Do I work in the gaming sector? Nope. But I've been slinging code for my supper for a very long time, and across multiple sectors in the industry. The practices that this community are up in arms over is considered standard practice in every other sector I've worked in, and representative of a fair amount of the industry. No two shops are the same, that is a given, but the industry is built on delivering products within a repeatable and established set of standards, that is defined by experience and the current state of technology. Had my chance to move to this industry, about ten years ago. Weighing my options, I passed. Part of the reason? The community, at large, that consisted of people who considered themselves so much more educated on how the industry worked than those who worked within it. Everyone I know who has worked in the sector says the same exact thing. The job is thankless, and it is due to the demographic of the target audience. Considering that, it made the other part of the equation for passing an obvious choice - mainly being that the compensation is generally well under the industry averages. The developers that everyone are so quick to crucify, generally have as much a love for gaming as anyone in the community. It is really the only thing they have to help them put up with this stuff.

                          • I'm really enjoying Destiny and for now this it not really bothering me, it's exciting to no that this content is coming and I really don't mind paying for this for now. But. What I would like to believe though is that these two expansions are not the only ones we are going to get. I'm hoping that these are finished and are waiting for the date to be unlocked but that Bungie are working on further DLC back at studio.
