I don't think antagonizing an already bad problem will help it, Daz.

  • The only real problem here are the self-righteous and self-proclaimed "old users" who go out of their way to insult and push back against new members on a video game developer's website, where the company has just released a game played by millions of people and who want to interact with its community. I'm sorry, but we can't allow that kind of uninviting attitude.

Self righteous you say? I'll give you this, there are some here who are self righteous. To say majority of us are self righteous is total bs. Most of the people just want #Gaming back to normal. Now we also know that it would be difficult to clean up, but we would at least like to see an attempt to clean it up. It's called LIFE. People who have had more experience than someone else do feel entitled. The same applies here. Get over it.

  • It came across that way. I misunderstood then.

  • No. I get that we're floodians, and all the stigma that comes with it, but the worst I've seen is that we aren't being the most inviting towards members. Abrasive at worst. You're making a very large sweeping judgement. But that is what happens when a child comes running through a grocery store, knocking shit over. People get abrasive. It's life. Now, our very own moderators are mocking us because we have a problem? Again, I understand that some of us are being assholes, but now this? Shameful.
You're making a very large sweeping judgement.
No I'm not. I specifically said it was related to the people who go out of their way to insult new members. That is in no way a "large sweeping judgment". We even have a rule against it if you hadn't noticed. Did you think I meant all the people who frequently post in #offtopic or something? I didn't. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

  • I agree. I got a little frustrated and caught up in the madness, to be sure. But then, just like someone watching Smosh, I suddenly thought "wtf am I doing," and stopped. The best option is to be nice to the new members and politely point them to the correct forum. One of them could become another beloved Floodian, with time. We all went through the cycle. And I say this as a fully self-righteous and self-proclaimed "old member."

  • Man I agree with this. But seriously #gaming is in a mess. You can't let new users just do that. Old users will obviously get angry, they won't let it happen.

  • I wholeheartedly agree there is a problem, but there is very little we moderators can do to stem the flow of those kinds of topics. Even if we did manage to somehow move all of them out of there and populate it with more gaming-related topics, they would still appear just as they initially did - we can't stop that, nor can anyone else by constantly making "desticles, go away" topics.

  • Actually, yes; yes we can. The issue is that they don't even know they're posting in the wrong forum! So if people actually tell them that they are, guess what happens? They stop. Shocking, right?

  • No, that WON'T work. There's too many people making all these threads, and more of them come in every day. Literally millions of people are playing this game, and for every single individual who you tell they're posting in the wrong forum, there's 20 more who are still posting in the wrong forum and another 50 who will show up down the road in the coming months. A handful of volunteer moderators can't solve a problem that big. What needs to happen is these forums need descriptions of some sort that let people know what type of content goes where, because a lot of the people posting here come here through their "Destiny companion app" on their mobile device, and they just assume everything on Bungie.net is Destiny-related. Plus, Destiny doesn't exactly make it easy for players to find friends to play with in-game, so a lot of people go to the forums out of necessity.
