Funny you should mention a chance at an exotic. My first legendary engram was an exotic. I was so stoked when the engram dropped. I could barely contain my excitement long enough to finish the strike I was on. As soon as it finished, I made a beeline for the cryptarch. Got an exotic. I sat there, staring at the screen speechless. I was stoked. I had just hit 20 about 10 minutes before I started that strike, and already a piece of top-end gear. Then I go to equip it. My dreams were shattered. I play a Titan and the armor was for a hunter. Utter garbage. In face. I'd say probably about 25% of the legendary engrams I've gotten have been for another class. Without a trade system, that maies them fundamentally worthless. I don't want to have to play 3 different characters just so my drops aren't wasted. I know there's someone out there with a hunter and some high end Titan gear who'd happily swap armor with me, but Bungie decided against such a basic MMO feature for what reason god only knows. of the remaining 10ish legendary engrams, all but one have been rare quality items. The only legendary I've acquired to date is my shotgun, which while outstanding, doesn't make up for the fact that I've been capped at 23 because every piece of gear that I've had drop has had a substantially lower Light value than my current armor. And I honestly wouldn't care if farming Vanguard rep wasn't so, so brutally painful.
