This is pretty much everything that people has been saying since the game released (hell, the beta even). The reviewer even spent about 40 hours playing the game, so there's no excuse you can bring up of him "rushing through" it.
It is the very personification (er-gameification) of "Jack of all trades, master of none." Destiny pulls from so many different things without understanding what makes them good, or really doing anything with them. A shame, really.

Good thing I didn't have ridiculous expectations like the rest of you. Best game I have played in a long time
-
I can't knock the review. At the same time I love this game. Is it all it could be? No. Do I get the loot I want? No. Have I found people I enjoy playing with other than my current friends? No. But the games so damn fun to me anyways. Can't wait to try and find a group to raid with.

Although I do agree with most of this review, I feel like Gamespot totally forgot just how fun this game is. They got caught up in bashing it and forgot that the game is mainly for the fun, not JUST the story. I haven't beaten the game yet, but it's the most fun I have had since Halo! The story is bad, I will admit that.
-
Lol, they gave titanfall a 9, their opinion is not valid
-
Gamespot has never givin good reviews, they are always caught up in hypes and expectations. A lot of their reviews are biased based on what counsel or company they are into at the time. Look at things like their titianfall review, what a joke.
-
Gamespot always has the worst reviews.

One thing a lot of people seem to forget about is that Bungie is adding more content over the next ten years. In other words, the game we currently have is only a taste of what Destiny is going to look like after a few months or so.
-
The only opinion I give a shit about is my own. I could not care what these so called critics think. Im loving the game and really think Bungie has a masterpiece on its hands. Destiny is fun, fun and then some. I play the game with my eyes and my thoughts , not some attention seeking self opinionated jerk who states bad things to get a reaction. Awesome job Bungie , you have a hit on your hands and I for one love it.
-
So did he do the raids?
-
I can decide if the game is good or not all by myself. Them giving it whatever score has no impact on my experience. Cool story I suppose.
-
Opinions........... I dont agree but to each his own.
-
ITT: People attacking the reviewer's motive and not his evidence.
-
they want people to return the game for 5 bucks and resell it for 60 !!
are you paid to be a prick or does it just come naturally?
-
I don't think anything, not even this, will ever make the brainwashed Desticles understand.
Make no mistake: Destiny's mechanical basics are, for the most part, superb. Interacting with this online-only shooter is a delight. The confident shooting model, the intuitive menus, the unblemished frame rate--all of these elements make for a fantastic foundation to build a worthy dynamic multiplayer shooter upon. Pulse rifles shoot their rhythmic barrages with great power, and charging up a fusion rifle and releasing its payload is akin to holding your breath and then expelling it in one rewarding sigh.
Accurate. Destiny really shines in the mechanics department. Especially replayability and progression.
The disappointment of Destiny is that it fails to capitalize on the possibilities. Story missions and strike missions have you taking to Destiny's broad and beautiful settings with a friend or two at your side, but breadth isn't the games primary calling card: it's repetition. Excellent basics are betrayed by half-baked ideas stretched into hours of slow-paced and redundant tasks that have you asking yourself, "Hey, isn't this the same canyon I just raced through on my handy speeder a few moments ago? Hey, didn't I just cross this hill 10 minutes ago, and 20 minutes ago, and an hour ago?" It's tempting to compare Destiny to full-fledged massively multiplayer role-playing games, but doing so reveals how much more diverse typical MMOGs really are.
Also accurate. As much as we are avoiding the issue, Destiny is very comparable to an MMO. It's tasks and grinding are incredibly repetitive. However, I think this particular issue can be solved rather quickly as more content is added to the game. I have the innate feeling we've only begun to scratch the surface of the lore potential. If anyone is bothering to read the Grimoire cards, you'll see Destiny's writing really begin to shine. I know it's not a good excuse to have a rather pathetic vehicle for the story in this first installment, but I feel it'll be easy to improve upon. As I mentioned, the issue is not really with the world/lore/story itself. It's with the vehicle by which we, the players, are introduced. Gone is the linearity of Halo with it's very flowing and strong campaign progression. Instead, we find a game more sandbox in nature. Which certainly has it's perks, but something fell by the wayside. I'm hoping BUNGiE realizes this and changes the way it's story missions are formatted/presented. :)

All I hear is moaning, blah blah blah, I love it
-
Ppl only focus about what is bad, and forget the rest
-
Its sad to say, but its accurate. I still like the game but lets not give the game a free pass on things that Cleary need to be worked on just because we love it.

http://business.financialpost.com/2014/09/10/destiny-review-bungies-500m-shooter-is-weird-cool-deliberate-and-maybe-not-for-everyone/?__lsa=f1c6-9196 I read this review the other day and it pretty much sums up my feelings about the game. It's not for everybody, it's light on story and there is a lot of grinding, but personally I'm having trouble putting it down.
-
Ironically I think squeezing in 40 hours then having to write about it is too much. And if you are mixed about the game and this type of gameplay, you're going to hate it by the end of the 40 hours. I've been taking my time and the game is fine. No, not revolutionary, but solid with a lot of potential.
-
Game sucks. <123% accurate.
-
This is coming from the same website that gave CoD: Ghosts an 8/10.

Has someone who just hit the power button on my PS4 because I got zerg-rushed in a corner by freshly spawned Hive Knights while fighting Phogoth in "Summoning Pits," I can say the assessment is bullshit. It's anything but objective. The guy's writing prose, and it's full of--not crticism--but disdain. He can play 400 hours for all I care, it doesn't mean he's capable of delivering a solid review. He criticizes Destiny for being a one-trick pony, with the critical one-trick trope that continues to plague games criticism: "Killing things is repetitive, and X-Company didn't reinvent games as I know it, so they suck!" Gimme a break. SHooting shit is fun. It always has and always will be. When you break it down, it hasn't really changed from arcade days of old, and that's great. There's a reason we do anything over and over again: It's fun. If you're bored with it, move on and accept that that might just be subjective, and stop being a dick about it.
-
Everybody is going to have their opinion. Plus, the MMO genre is relatively new for Bungie, so you can bet that improvements will be made. I personally love the game. It's the best I've played in a long while.
-
The beta lowered my expectations for Destiny a lot. I enjoy Destiny for what it is
-
Yeah, nope. The game is more fun than any game I've played in a long time. It may not "master" all genres but it's way better than average at them.
