Edited by Nobody: 8/27/2014 6:10:00 AM
My guess is because your movement and field of view are so restricted with a turret, the third person view is there to help compensate. With the heavy turrets, you only have a small cone of fire and your movement is removed while it is on the tripod. If you were stuck looking down the barrel, about 270 degrees of view become unavailable to you, making you a sitting duck for every other player that isn't right in front of you. If you had to get off the turret every time just to look around, people wouldn't use it because it would be a hindrance to gameplay with no real benefits. With the turret ripped off, you alleviate the problem of a small field of view, but you still have slower turn and movement speed. You could easily be outmaneuvered by other players, and wouldn't even know it at times if you were stuck in first person. With vehicle turrets, most aren't designed to be viewed in first person, so that would mean a special HUD would be needed. Not really a problem, just something that would need to be added. The real problem though is not a lot of the turret vehicles are really stable enough most of the time, even the Scorpion has times where a first person view would just make you vomit. Warthogs are always bouncing, flipping, and being rocked all over the place, at least the third person view helps prevent any motion sickness that could result from the first person view. If anything, first person view could be an option to have on turrets for those that choose to, but it definitely shouldn't be default or forced on people. I actually posted this on the forums first on accident, redacted it and then sent it as a PM...

I literally just about shit myself. I signed up for a military leadership class that's description was learn leadership and navigational skills. I was like hell yea, I can take this as an elective and itll be easy cuz I did this in eagle scouts. 1 hour a day on tuesday...no problem. I sit down and everyone has there head shaved and I'm just chilling with a full grown beard. So a sgt walks in and is like "welcome to rotc, freshman"...and I'm like shit. I'm a junior just wanting to take a one hour class to boost my gpa...He's says don't forget to sign up for the lab, that's the majority of your grade. we will be doing pt every morning....then I was like -blam!-kkkkkkkk it's 106 degrees outside and I'm already taking max hours. Im not in -blam!-ing rotc. I'm in the wrong class, I need to drop this. And to make matters worse a colonel comes in and literally only asks me questions like he's interrogating me. I about shit my pants dude...not going to lie -text to my friends this afternoon
