I get special Vanguard equipment at a shop on day 1 by pre-ordering. Do they give you an advantage or is it pure aesthetics?

It is an instant collection of guns that should be better then what you have. Each one costs 100-250 or something like that in glimmer, so it is Day 1, but no Minute 1

during the beta i had access to the vanguard armory but every thing was so expencive
