So one of my friends brought up an interesting topic this morning. He said that GIF was pronounced with a short j sound, while I thought it was with a short g sound. So I ask you flood, how do you pronounce GIF?
-
g-g-g-jraphic
-
I pronounce it Gjif. Best of both worlds.

-
I pronounce the g. I know it's wrong, but meh.
-
Peanut butter.
-
Wins. Close thread.
-
Guh-Eh-F.
-
Jif. Like the man who invented The format does. But hey... Tomato tomato...
-
-
It's G as in Golf. If not, I'm gonna kill you.
-
"Guh-eh-fff" is how I'd go by saying each individual letter in it.
-
With a hard "g" sound. Yeah yeah the creator said it's supposed to sound like a "j", but I really don't care.
-
Gif like that peanut butter
-
Seeing as it stands for Graphics Interchange Format, i pronounce it with a hard 'G'. I don't give a shit what the creator of it says. the word is Graphics, not Jraphics. so it is pronounced "GIF" not "JIF"
-
Like giraffe? Or it could be like grape, the world may never know
-
With a strong "G", obama confirmed this.
-
As it should be.
-
Soft g, like the peanut butter. Sorry, but the creator gets to name it, and he pronounces it that way. It is also correct according to the English language to be pronounced that way. Here's some examples: giraffe, giant. Both have soft g's. And just because it stands for graphics doesn't mean that's how it's pronounced, if you take every letter in an acronym and make it so that it sounds like the word it stands for, half of the acronyms we have wouldn't make sense. For example, FUBAR would be pronounced "fuh-bear."
-
I cycle through it. Sometimes I say GIF, sometimes I say JIF. I don't mean to, but I've heard it really pisses off my friends

You do not pronounce G as a J It's a g
-
People still think that it's pronounce with a hard g?
-
I call it GIF, not JIF.
