So I played through most of the classes in Destiny and recognized all were fairly fun(I'm being modest they were all amazing) but when playing as the hunter I couldn't help but notice that my knife had some pretty immensly insane accuracy...but decided to simply chock it up to me simply being pretty decent at knife throws haha...
Long story short I was sifting through the internet for new destiny footage, or simply unseen footage, and stumbled across some intriguing knife kills for the Hunter class on IGN...What was apalling was noticing the seemingly homing or rather insanley large hit-boxs that the knifes displayed...
Notice specificly at:
(Watch the below videos at .25X speed with youtubes functionality to see the full effects of the enlarged hit boxes)
00:16 secs- where the blade seems to literally curve at the last moment into the player...
01:51 secs- where the knife is literally displayed hovering above the players shoulder blade cleary indicating an enormous hit-box
01:53 secs- where the knife again seems to leave its initial straight pat at the last moment to curve into the players thigh
Now for those who are unsure of the terminology a hit-box is essentially the frame around the character where any damage will register and take effect on the player...now for simply gun mechanics I didn't notice anything to grandiose, though bullets are significantly more difficult to track...but with these knife kills its overtly apparent that the knife hit box needs some tweeking...
To anyone else please tell me if you notice any others within the video as I threw this up relativley quickly, or tell me how you feel regarding this material though I'm fairly certain those kills are due to enlarged hit-boxes and not latency...
-Sincerely an avid Bungie/Destiny Fan

1. You are dealing with a beta in which millions of players played, and which there were probably hundreds of millions of engagements. You are GOING to get some freak occurrences with those kinds of numbers. 2. You are dealing with a server-based game that is very latency sensitive. So what gets depicted---in terms of sequence of events---on the screen may be very different from what the server "saw" in calculatin the outcome.

This is Terrible, why has noone else complained about this? They were probably too busy complaining about the interceptor
-
Haha I must've been really bad then because I'd miss a lot
-
Remember that time when I was like "well at least it doesnt seem to auto-lock/redirect to get headshots"....yeah... 00:16 secs... Gosh Damnit haha...

The knife isn't an instant kill in destiny and without compensation, at least on console, I'd be unusable. Even with it, I have never been killed by the knife, but it was help players kill me.
-
This usually was because of latency 97% of the time I had to be accurate to get a kill.
-
Watch out. You're onto something. You never know who at bungie is watching you
-
Not sure if this is true but I think it was greatly due to the ridiculous amount of latency during the beta.
-
I realized the curve on the multiplayer trailer, did anyone else?
-
Wow I wish I had known this I would have sent my video in... I through a knife straight up and then started getting attacked and when I was almost dead my knife came back down and saved my life... bet that woulda got #1
-
Was a lot of lag during the beta, keep that in mind. Knives didn't only do that but so did bullets.
-
You could notice large hitboxes using the hand cannon or scout rifle as well. I had tons of head shots, many of which I know we're above the shoulder or head.
-
Haha and just wait till knives insta-recharge with precision kills and everyone carries two!
-
I noticed the size of the hit box but its understandible. COD throwing knifes are pretty freaking hard to hit anything with let alone a headshot. Have it the same as those and the knife would be completely useless, it needs the size to be somewhat feasible in PVP.

Edited by Vulper: 8/16/2014 8:45:25 AMYou can't exactly scope in with a knife and it'd make the hunter class rather under advantaged if it wasn't there to compensate, considering that as long as you're not blind the other two class' melees always hit and for big damage. If a throwing knife didn't have that hit box range, coupled with the less than great grenades, it'd be a pretty poor class to play. It's probably also there to compensate for lag, since I'm sure you know how bad that could get if you played the crucible a decent amount.

Well I'm a Hunter in my defense. In the Beta we had nothing with a large AoE except. The throwing knife gave us extra range. Plus it might be part of that skill being as how the Hunter is a Guardian. Plus its a little hard hitting someone with that dang knife.
-
Yea I see what you mean, maybe they can add it as a perk " homing knife" lol
-
Yeah I noticed this in beta.
