Edited by roland: 8/10/2014 4:55:33 PMLots of sedimentary rocks here, with seemingly two main types. The less common rock appears to be more thinly bedded and is exposed in the walls of valleys. The other, more common, is more massively bedded and shows some jointing/fracturing. The more massive rock weathers to more rounded boulders, implying this is a sandstone. Does the picture above show a glacially carved valley near Baikonur, Russia? Could the layered rocks exposed in the walls of the valley be glacial varves? There are no other glacial features seen in the area, but some of the hills could be remnant moraines or eskers.
