So I keep reading posts where peeps think that Cryptarchs aren't a legit way to get exotics. That they should be exclusive to raids, strikes, bounties and pvp tourneys. Why? What's wrong with the occasional rare drop after wiping out a squad of Fallen/Cabal/Hive/Vex? Speaking from a story point of view these guys have been raiding the Galaxy for centuries their Captains SHOULD have rare earth swag in there pockets just for kicks!

Decrypting LOOTED engrams at the cryptarch is totally fine. But buying rares and exotics from him is BS

Edited by Destiny Addicted: 8/11/2014 12:30:01 PMI hope that on the final release Cryptarch won't give us exotics in any way,i want em just obtainable by destroiyng Strike Missions on hard difficult and Raids. I would like to get exotics by Cryptarch just on really lucky shots like una tantum..or another option: make some exotics(10\20) obtainable by him having more challenge among players, but the best exotics just ultra-rare drops by Final Bosses for the best pve players.
-
I think the idea of buying engrams and having a chance for them to be exotic/legendary should be locked until level 20, or at least until your cryptarch is rank 10 or something. That way it gives level 20's a reason to dump glimmer somewhere usefull.
-
I agree. The drop rate for an exotic from the Cryptarch is probably so low, it's probably easier to get one from a raid. Did anyone ever play Borderlands 2. Christ! Some of those drops rate were insanely low. You could kill the guy an item is suppose to drop from a thousand times, literally and it might never drop. Then some dick would post, 'yeah, I got like 4 of those items.' DICK! But seriously, really low drop rates.
-
I have no problem with decrypting engrams from the wild for Rare< loot, but buying such items seems a bit too easy. That said, I'm sure they cost way more than even a ship.
-
I love the cryptarch! I'm currently working on feeling out his personality with some short stories I wrote posted here on the forums. They're not much to look at, but I had fun writing them.
-
The system would be fine it people didn't have such a easy way of leveling the cryptarch so fast. Farming glimmer in the beta through chests made glimmer way to fast. Then buying the cheapest engrams to lvl up fast. If it was natural lvling though dropped engrams and rewarded glimmer then the cryptarch would lvl normally and be rare to get an exotic. Ppl in the Beta were lvling cryptarch past lvl 15. After that many lvl rewards your bound to get an exotic.
-
I'm just gonna say this now... "ALL HAIL THE CRYPTARCH!"
if you want a. Actually explanation i'd be happy to oblige.
-
It's balanced just fine, it takes so long to get a really good engram, probably longer than it takes to do a raid.
-
Do you mean engrams or the actual cryptarch? Engrams are decoded by the cryptarch.
-
Have no issue with it. Makes getting loot from fallen enemies that much more exciting. The more difficult the enemy = Chance for better gear/weapons. Like in Borderlands, bosses usually drop some form of unique gear.
-
Why does anyone care how someone else gets their gear? I like the cryptarch simply because I will not play pvp so I have extremely low chances of getting anything good unless I farm. Why is the cryptarch any different to the factions selling all their swag anyways? As said the crucible levels out all weapons and nobody else's pve game affects yours.
-
I think it is more the people who exploited the glitch where chests re-spawned to get a bunch of glimmer, rank up their Cryptarch, and get their rarest loot from that. That is a pretty lame way to get something. I don't think most people have problems with the occasional rare/legendary drop from enemies. Though there should be some stuff that can only be obtained through certain raids//strikes.
-
It seems as if the cryptarch will progress on a level with gameplay. I figure in the main game, you'll get at least to level 4 or 5 just doing story missions. I don't think rewards scale with level, however it would be nice to see higher ranks of cryptarch giving better rewards - maybe even a max rank? That way, those who are truly dedicated, be it time or kill wise, will be rewarded in tandem with their total game experience.
-
There seems to be some confusion in this thread. People are complaining about getting exotics from engrams you buy from the cryptarch not ones you find and bring to him. Of course you should be able to find legendaries and exotics by killing bad guys.
-
Well they are supposed to be one of a kind items so it makes sense only one of a kind enemies would have a chance of having one, exotics should only have a very small chance of being awarded at the very pinnacle of the most difficult things on the game or its not a 1 of a kind, its a 1 of oh everyone has one.
-
Does it truly matter who drops what? They were saying Rixxas, Archon Slayer, would drop that legendary/exotic heavy machine gun, and he is the second mission. If he will actually drop anything like that in the real game, will be seen. However, if I can pick up a random encrypted engram, and a high enough level Cryptarch can turn it into an amazing piece of gear, I am not going to complain. Also, a random drop will feeling amazing, as opposed to grinding out the same boss, strike, mission, event, or even a raid to get a specific item.
-
Yo I'm the founder if the one the only, Cryptarch Clan. And if there's on man who can get you exotics it's the Cryptarch. All hail the Cryptarch
-
I think legendary and exotic gear should come from encrypted stuff, of course this should be VERY RARE, like a 1-2% chance, but should still be possible and more of a possibility on harder enemies.
-
OCULIS RIFT
-
Meh. I will be just glad to get a blue item from a random dreg.
-
I think the beta was a big tease. They made it easy to get our hands on and examine very rare stuff but i bet it was just to whet our appetites. I think there wont be as much incentive to farm once it releases, the beta had people grinding away at lvl 8. But in the game youd be on the moon by then doing gods what. Bungie wants this to last for years right? Its gonna be much slower lvl process and the rare loot chances are gonna drop dramatically, i dont think they could make it last too long otherwise
-
This is one of the elements that comes from the ARPG influence. When smithing in certain games you get the opportunity to have it become a rarer version of whatever it was. Without crafting, this is the next best thing. I don't think it's a problem at all.
-
They do know that the enemies DROP them but you have to decrypt them with the Cryptarch?
-
You should never obtain a exotics or legendarys through the Cryptarch.Thats like getting a diamond ring outta a 25¢ machine lol.

ITT: Desticles are butthurt because OP got better guns than them
