Let's say...
You're standing on a dock that sits over a lake.
You see your pet and a stranger drowning, your pet on the left and the stranger on the right. They are both the same distance away from you.
You only have time to save one, so you must choose. There's absolutely no way to save both of them.
So who would you save?
-
I would gladly let the stranger die to save my dog, statistically the guy was probably an asshole
-
I'd save a human life. If I were to save the dog, I would be greatly despised for being selfish and could also be charged for manslaughter just because I didn't save that persons life.
-
A stranger and then give my pet the mightiest of funerals! 😢
-
Its all fine and dandy for people to choose their pet until you're the stranger. Then all of a sudden you hope they choose you despite the fact that they raised there dog since they were 1.
-
The jokes on you OP, dogs can swim.
-
My cat
-
My pet. -blam!- that dude, learn to swim. A pet is part of your family, you cared for it and spent money feeding/raising it.
-
I'd honestly save the stranger if it happened
you never know man that dog could start world war 3
Edited by codmoh: 8/27/2014 11:27:07 PMMy dog. It has done nothing wrong ,the human has. Let him die, screaming for help, he won't get any from me. I don't give a damn about 'morality' or the 'value of human life'. His life means nothing to me. My dog's does.
-
I mean I don't know does the dog have the ability to start world war 3?
-
My dog. Sorry, but dogs have the same right to live as any human. If it wasn't my dog, my choice may be different. But, my dog looks to me for protection. It would be paddling, trying to get my attention. Do I just let it watch me save someone I don't know? Shouldn't be in a drowning scenario if your safe. If he couldn't swim, but his ego got in the way of wearing a vest, that choice can't kill my dog.

What is this, Mass Effect?
-
Edited by TGI Skuldier: 8/27/2014 11:30:05 PMMy pet is a turtle. Your move OP....
-
Edited by aceebro: 8/27/2014 11:27:01 PMIRL I would go for my dog, then try to save the person.
-
A human being is capable of higher functions than a dog. Therefore, human>dog, meaning that a human life is worth more. It could even be argued that saving the dog is amoral to do depending on your ethical philosophy.
-
Pet loyal stranger well we know how that working out in this life time
-
Honestly? The stranger. It'd -blam!-ing kill me though
-
Stranger
-
Id save the stranger :3
-
The dog
-
I turn around and walk away.
-
Most docks have flotation device equipped so throw the device for the guy. Dive in for the dog. OT my pets a fish problem?
-
Definitely the stranger.
-
I'll just use my space magic to lift them both out of the water. Problem solved
-
Stranger. People and animals are not on the same level. Saving the pet just because I have more of an attachment to it would be selfish. "Oh the pet matters more to me!" And you could have just left a family without a parent. You could have just orphaned children. You could have just let the person who would cure cancer die, so that you would not have to mourn over the loss of your pet.

Are we really all this selfish?
