The communication feature of the game is a bit lacking, I'm an xbox one owner and I have to admit, as enthralled as I was to the Destiny Beta, it was a little annoying that I had to keep the party snap window open to actually talk to my fireteam. Also, this next bit may be a a little far fetched, but if it's possible, I think it would give the gaming world a new level of complexity. Bare with me, here's the idea. A Server Wide Chat a Channel based on character proximity. Take the role of the player for a second. You have your controller in hand and your headset mic on and you're arriving at the tower, just coming back from your normal guardian duties. You notice a group of players around the bounty dealer and are curious as to what's the big deal. As you move your guardian closer to the group you begin to hear voices over your headset, once in immediate proximity, you hear a full blown conversation between all the players of that group (other actual people with headsets) and now also have the ability to speak and be heard by every one of them because your guardian is in immediate proximity with theirs. You gain the information you desired and decide to move away from them, the further you go, the less you hear. I figured 20 meters (to scale) would be a suitable distance for other players mics to be inaudible (but that's up really up to you genius developers at Bungie, and if this is even a feasible idea). If this idea has even the SLIGHTEST chance at being possible, I beg you guys to at least attempt to figure out a method to this undoubtedly mad suggestion. This idea would not only blow minds, but encourage more communication between gamers (especially in a game that is centered around mass co-operative play) and successfully change the gaming world FOREVER by raising the bar for exactly what these next gen systems are capable of. We've all seen the visual and gaming prowess of the xbox one and ps4, but what about their player communication capabilities, which is the undeniable next step for future gaming? I know it's only a month and change left until launch and that's a tall order. But if this message reaches anyone, I hope you kind folk at bungie will keep this in mind and consider it for your companies future endeavors.
Your faithful player

Totally for proximity chat! The social lager on top of the game would make it all the more fantastic. A bigger one which is less like, but would still be awesome would be the ability to send out messages on the battlefield. "Is anyone there, I would like some assistance. In a firefight, any help would be greatly appreciated." "Message received, coming in, ETA 40 seconds."

Check out my earn your rank post!!! It talks a lot about this issue

Yes. I agree. Bungie promoted all of this socialness, but I'm seeing none of it.

pretty sure its been brought up before, proximity chat is nothing new and most ppl would welcome it....easy way to meet and find ppl for strike missions or raids.....I don't know if the game could actually handle that tho but i would love to see it.
