Dose anyone else think that the game should have a proximity chat? I know that I can just invite players to a party. But I think it takes away from the experience that we can't just talk openly to each other.
What do you think?

I think the same as in the other threads: Needs to be able to be disabled completely (so it's never accidentally turned on by someone who despises the thing completely) Needs to have at least a function that enables your mic to proximity chat from Fireteam chat, so that you can switch between easily. Needs to have a function that lets you switch it on/off in-game. Easy ways to do: a single button - hold the button to enable/disable proximity chat, press the button to enable/disable your mic to the proximity chat

Bungie already said they are/were working on it. I expect chat to be better and joining fire teams to be smoother.

Edited by Automatic2209: 8/2/2014 5:47:47 PMIt's a good idea at first, but I personally think proximity chat would ruin the experience. I've played in several MMOs before and when someone comes running through the city spamming texts boxes, it's annoying...now....imagine if that was actual sound in your ears and the only notification you had is a little mic notification next to their player name. That would be hard to find the person to mute them, not to mention every one else's mic notification would be going off at the same time. It seems like a good idea at first, but when you put deeper thought into it. It would be VEERRRRY hard to implement. The easiest way to meet people would be to do a strike or pvp, and don't go in with a mic or send someone a message asking if you can be part of their clan. Or you can always browse the forums to meet a group of people. There are tons of people searching for members.

I keep hearing about proximity chat and that sounds great. I wonder if it would be easier to intergrate an option in the player menu to invite to private chat. There should be an option to ignore private chat so if you start getting spammed. I think this would work good if it suspended your fireteam chat and gave your group an notification you were away. It could then return you to your fireteam when you close private. This would be great for a quick word to people before you invite them to a fireteam or to just say thanks or good job. I agree we need something. Fireteam invites are a pretty dedicated action. Maybe the answer should just be an automatic chat response to an invite. I don't kwnow nearly enough about what it takes to integrate these options into a game. Maybe some with a lot more programming knowledge can chime in. If we shoot to high in our request we may fall below a suitable solution.

Agree, but with an option to disable it.

Agree completely. Proxim chat FTW!

Give me an opinion to turn it off

Agree 150% You should not be forced into pvp with a team of mutes just because you didn't que up with friends. Same goes for Strikes.

I agree so very much. The Beta made for a shitty social experience if your goal was to meet people rather than play with people already on your friends list.
