Because of this combination of skills / perks
Arcane spirt +divine order : this combination gives you 80-90% of the bar filled in both armor and recovery( reduses agility to about 15-20%
energy drain: normally only reduses your grenade cool down but is augmented by other abilities.
Embrace the void: where it starts to get fun. Damaging enemy's with your grenade / nova bomb triggers energy drain
life steal killing a enemy while energy drain is active restores a " significant portion " if your health.
the hunger extends the duration of energy drain
With these abilities you should be able to tank very well
-
That's also not mentioning what possible boosts your Light armor may grant you allowing you to choose something else because your equipment grants that particular boost automatically.

Edited by DawnBlue: 8/14/2014 6:22:32 AMEdited above the post as well so everyone notices it: Stay away from this thread, do not make new comments here, if you awaken this beast it will consume your logic and shit out lies and stupidity! You have just one error there
life steal killing a enemy while energy drain is active restores a " significant portion " if your health.
The actual skill description for Life steal is this
Killing an enemy with Energy Drain immediately restores a significant portion of your health.
You don't just kill everything and be immortal, you need to kill with the melee ability. That's not gonna happen very often in hard content - I doubt we will be facing millions of low HP enemies instead of just a bunch of tough ones. That would also be the inherent error with your plan to begin with, even if it didn't fail hard at the point where you thought Life steal is completely different. Energy drain has two meanings. It's the name of the melee ability which has cool down and it's the name of the buff you get from hitting an enemy with said melee ability. Embrace the Void will grant you the buff from Grenades / Nova Bomb, making Grenade cooldown shorter, but will not interact with any upgrades you can select for Energy drain itself. You can't increase movement speed, regain health or reduce Nova Bomb cooldown using Embrace the Void. Edit: I just realized how old this thread is, you might as well have figured all this stuff out a long time ago... Edit 2: Well, if anything, this thread has once again shown me that I shouldn't be surprised by idiocy of any level anymore. People are blatantly making up facts with no proof whatsoever. Stay away from this thread, do not make new comments here, if you awaken this beast it will consume your logic and shit out lies and stupidity!

Edited by DeviousBarnacle: 8/14/2014 5:59:00 AMPersonally i plan on using the Voidwalker as a glass cannon, focusing mostly on speed. The SunSinger is what i plan on using as more of a tank. It can get the same level of toughness and recovery while being able to give itself major defensive buffs. Plus it has good abilities that allow it to deal large amounts of DOT. Which i hope will keep enemies focused on me (seeing that i will be doing constant damage to them) while my allies can work on killing them more efficiently. I really hope it will work out like that.

Edited by the one and only: 7/29/2014 11:31:14 PMCool build idea, but solo defense is not tanking, and it means sacrificing useful skills needed for good and balanced team play. Almost all the mmo's out there give a chance to build your sorc/healer/mage into some sort of defender, but they never measure up to tank classes for the simple reason they can't support defense for a whole team, which is real tanking. Any experienced rpg-er knows solo tanking is cool PvP and solo grinding, but if you can't tank for your team on a raid, then re-spec or get off my team. There will always be skilltrees for solo play (titans striker), but team raids are where the heart of this game will lie imo.
-
Well there wont be any tanking to do in the game but as far as damage mitigation you're definately right sunsingers will be able to get the same as defenders that way.
-
How do you think the warlock will pull Agro off them big ass things they going to be shooting at everyone no matter what you are
-
life steal killing a enemy while energy drain is active restores a " significant portion " if your health.
From the talent calculator on destinydb: "Killing an enemy with Energy Drain immediately restores a significant portion of your health." Very similar but the key word "with" instead of "while active". These mean two very different things. From what I can tell it seems you have to use your melee while the cooldown is up to gain the life steal effect. This would limit the warlocks tanking ability greatly if this was true. Meaning in order to gain the health you would have to use your melee attack and kill an enemy and only then would you gain health back. I read some of the posts and it seemed like you were saying any kills while Energy Drain was active would result in health restored. Would love to hear your thoughts or counter-arguments.

I've played all 3 classes to death. Still think titans will be more tanky. Can't deny that the warlock class is an absolute beast with the high rec and high arm. Agl don't mean shxt at that point
-
We're not looking at the value of the armour you're wearing here. Plus Warlocks don't have skills that mitigate damage or make them a foundation for the team to revolve around like titans do.
-
I think it'd be best to describe the warlock as an off tank. Their mobility and regen should help them keep aggro on adds and their AoE should allow them to clean them up as well. Titan has damage mitigation which is where tanks usually shine. A boss that crits like cray will still drop someone that doesn't have any mitigation. Not to mention the Titan has group buffs to shields and such which will really let the 2 work in tandem. So far hunter seems pure single target dps as well. I feel as though the game may hopefully shine when we have lvl 20's working in tandem to get the synergy between everyone I think Bungie was going for.

Warlock is the best class because it can also use grenade so titian isn't even a class
-
Not compared to the titan's defender class. Not by a long shot. The defender drops a shield that gives him and his buddies who pass through shields. His melee if killing a person grants him a shield. That one can be modified to charge continually AND have even more resistance to damage. Plus the standard armor passives and the ability to make his super charge more often he gets shields more often. He also can supress other supers with a grenade. So no. Any class can be some what tanky. But the titan is the king of it.
-
I was wondering about that skill if it would give me life steal everytime my nade hits someone. I don't think it will work like this because I would stack gear to make nade cool down as low as possible. It would make the warlock amazing in pve as well.
-
Best tanks my ass. What you described is a life tank and they are cooldown bound. Titans tank well and then tank better when their abilities are up. Your description makes Warlocks tank well only when they can use lifesteal and energy drain (which isn't all the time)

Edited by O I AM DONK: 7/29/2014 5:39:18 AMhave you seen the bladedancer subclass for the hunter it made me have to change my pants again......thanks bungie >.> allthough on the warlock topic a tank isnt 100% on being able to take a hit you have to hold agro on everything and in this game the titan can directly stop you from attacking all the warlock will be is a cannon no longer glass cannon but directly high armor high dmg but personally when you got a bladedancer hunter that blinks around oneshoting things but im not gonna go around d riding the hunter just because i love it warlock is something you use for a trash mob destroyer but high dmg on single too titan is a tough guy who can incapacitate enemys and take a hit i wouldnt put him incredibly high on dmg meter and finally the hunter is a single target menace ending lives a a single foe with minimal blows
-
I'm going to laugh if the Warlock can out tank a Titan.
-
Toss this into your build: http://www.destinydb.com/items/2771018500-skull-of-dire-ahamkara#zsXXVS8 1.) Its a skull... that has to look cool. 2.) It buffs your defense during Nova Bomb. 3.) Improves all siphon abilites. 4.) Other synergy with defense/grenade.
-
Seems to be a slot for another subclass. Maybe expansion? I wonder what the trends may be for future class builds and optimization.
-
Defence and armor are 2 different things armor is the characters stat and defence is the amount of your "armor peice's defence points added together".
-
I had more defense then my Titan friend and I am a Warlock
-
Edited by Godlike13: 7/29/2014 2:04:14 PMIf u can regen ur health with ur melee, grenades, and super then wouldn't it be better to focus on armor and agility over armor and recovery.
-
Look at sunsinger they can revive themselves and other players with there super
-
You should probably take a look at the titans defender subclass
-
( reduses agility to about 15-20%

reduses

reduses
-
titan's still gonna be my starter at least. It's the best looking class
-
What about the hunters ability to teleport? In combination with invisibility. Gonna be ruthless
