Menu navigation would be improved by adding the ability to move from "Settings" to "Roster" using R1 and vice versa using L1. It's a small thing, I know, but it would help.
In addition, there should exist a way to navigate between the "Details" screens of weapons and armour (sorry about the "u" — I'm Canadian) without having to exit to the menu screen first. This would be particularly useful when examining the details of a weapon or piece of armour at a vendor, allowing players to more accurately compare the details (be they aesthetic or statistical) between, say, a Monitor Type 2 Chest Armor and an Armada Type 3 Chest Armor when purchasing from the Titan Vanguard Zavala. And, for improved functionality, players should be able to rotate the model in the "Details" screen, as they should in the character creation screen.
Otherwise, great job, Bungie!

Are you talking about comparing items that you have equipped vs the item you want to buy? You can do that now. If you are at a vendor with a cursor on an item hold R2 and it will compre that item with your currently equipped item.

All good suggestions. I'd add that while I quickly get used to the cursor system, it'd be good to be able to cycle through menu items traditionally using the dpad as well.
