So I've played through the missions 4 times, once per class and tried it again on Hard Mode with my Hunter. I've done some exploration and that was cool.
It's the AI though. They just aren't smart enough. Like, if you're on a mission they have certain rooms that they won't chase you past. The only ones that swarm you are those floating machines, husks, and dregs. They spent too much time behind cover when they had the numerical advantage where they could have just cornered me.
Second problem, and this is something that I loathe about every game that's done this since the 90's, Hard mode just increases the number and HP of the enemies. The AI is still as dumb as they were on Normal mode only now you run into an issue of having enough ammo. But I don't need to worry about that because I can just hide around a corner and wait for my abilities to recharge.
Really like the game so far, though it is more like a demo than a beta. We're getting a preview of the game play rather than testing things out and trying to break them.

I shared the same concern but noticed that the name of the enemy changes the ai difficulty. I was doing the 4th mission on hard solo and got to the very end until that last wave and couldn't get past the swarm of enemies. When I jumped back in with a fire team I noticed the lowest level enemies had different modifiers to their names and they behaved differently and sometimes tried flanking me. The drop ships also actually cleared the drop zone with massive purple one hit kill plasma blast unlike the normal blue ones. Hopefully things change but it'd be nice if full release brought normal and hard mode with every area. Hard with actually intelligent ai. Also the mobs stop following you same as most MMO's. That way you don't have lvl 20's kiting beastly behemoths from higher lvl areas to the lower level ones.

For those claiming Halo had better AI and that enemies always chased you, not entirely true. Even the covenant had their leashes and wouldn't go past certain points. Some of the Flood is about the only thing that didn't have a leash.
-
That'd be nice to give us a challenge.

Make Bungie use Unreal Engine 4 for their AI. Problem solved
-
"Husks," you say? I believe they're called Thralls, but they do sorta remind me of the Husks from Mass Effect...
-
Your all idiots....you know that right? The only thing changes in difficulty settins is the lvl of story mode mobs. Your complaini my of a.i when this has some of the best a.i ive seen obviously enemies arent go na chase you to the ends of the earth.. or else you could just keep running and playing like a loser for your abilities to actovate again. Enemies rush you when your low on health have movement and cover algorithms you want them to learn your patterns?! Stop bitching please
-
P.s. The giant spider bot thing, (sorry the actual name eludes me) are actually pretty difficult to take down. It takes well coordinated fire teams and a lot of patience to take one of those down. Just be patient, and if you really want a challenge, go find a couple of the basements and caves with the "hallowed" unkillable enemies.
-
I disagree with one point. When you said you place the difficulty on hard, only the health and number went up. In Halo, those elites were unstoppable.

I feel like there will be MANY more augmentations besides number of npcs to be discovered in the full game. About the Ai, it's true they don't follow you, I could be getting chased by a thrall and run down some stairs and they'd just turn around. However, I also encountered an elite captain (yellow name and health bar) for an event and he chased me across the map even after I zoomed off on my sparrow

Edited by Magiking: 7/21/2014 3:06:08 PMYeah, higher difficulties just mean more bullet sponges. AI really isn't that great, and this, in turn, doesn't make combat very compelling.
-
I feel like a lot of people in this thread are missing your point. Heroic modes of missions and strikes have the AI with the same level of intelligence but just more of them and more HP. Enemies in dungeons on heroic mode should have augmented abilities or new abilities altogether. They should react more intelligently when you are attacking them. As it stands now, they act in the identical way they do on normal mode.

Haha of course the ai is dumb we are dealing with low levels, just thinking that we have X amount of planets to go through and I'm sure their intelligence is gonna increase I wouldn't worry about that just wait until we get those ones that won't stop throwing grenades at us
-
If you are good one, try to inner holes ( a way to Devil Walker) It where you can see Mob with "??" and try to shot it. Do not complain when you say " WTF, no damage!? and try go in and revive dead ghost too. I wanted to see how many times you will die inside.
-
it would be nice to see extra modes akin to the way diablo 3 works, so you can get more elite enemies with the same difficulty, or visa versa. but that's because that is a great feature. I don't have a problem with the ai, also the fallen are not the only enemies in the full game.
-
Yes!!! I know right lvl 20 is to low for a max level cap. Needs to be 40-60 at least per character.
-
The room thing is intentional. It set's boundaries so that enemies won't leave their dungeons or chase you to far if you need to take a breather.
-
i think the AI is plenty smart. some fallen even have a teleport dodge which always catches me by surprise. as to following into rooms go, I respect it. coz many a times I was bein slaughtered and to my relief I could go hide and recover and reload while the enemies waited. the thing that bothers me is that on hard the enemies are sponges. not much else. no new attacks per se and no variety like hallowed or elder types. only greater level and greater hp
-
Its plenty difficult nobody i know even has the beta at level 5 i tried to do devils lair impossible if you want a challenge make a new character and play by yourself not everyone gonna have a fireteam thats why the ai is what it is.
-
I think that the AI is not dumb, it's just that they're not aggressive enough...their aggro range is very limited you can easily get out of an hard situatio by running 10 metres away, it's just...stupid enemies don't even follow you to kill you.
-
I agree AI are to dumb it feels like there just shooting targets
-
agreed, where is our legendary halo difficulty? I breeze through these enemies. Though i will say i did notice a difference between the alpha and the beta in this respect.
-
YESSSSS!!! Totally agree, I want the enemies to be more aggressive and chase me.
-
The hardest and funniest moment for me is the Event at Skywatch.. A lot of elites and ultra. Very fun and hard not to die. The spider tank was way too easy.. Turd you just sink bullets into. But get that event a few times it's a blast.
-
AI desperately need improvements. I can stand next to a dreg taking cover and watch while he pops his head out. They just need to be smarter.
