Something I have noticed is different in the Beta from the Alpha is that the other Crucible modes have "tool tips" which reveal what they are called and have a wee description. Still a little vague in places but we can speculate.
So we have "Control" which is the only mode in the Beta as it was in the Alpha
It's basically Team Deathmatch with capturable points that multiply your score. And it's points that count rather than just kills. Kills do help though.
But what of the other modes?
Clash
6v6. Form an alliance and fight for supremacy across the ruins of our old world (party size: 6)
Rumble
You against all. Hone your Light by challenging your fellow Guardians in a fight for survival (party size: 3)
Combined Arms
6v6. Coordinate vehicles and your ground game to control the battlefield and rout your oponents (party size: 6)
Skirmish
3v3. A focussed engagement between two fireteams. teamwork is your greatest weapon (party size: 3)
Salvage
3v3. Secure and defend the Relics to claim the secrets of our past. (party size: 3)
My thoughts are that "Rumble" is your free-for-all type mode. Maybe just normal deathmatch.
Skirmish could be a short scale TDM with Salvage being a "collect" type game mode of a similar size.
Combined arms could be the big "proper" objective game mode featuring vehicles (so possibly big maps only, like the Moon one from the beta).
Clash could either be the more traditional TDM mode or it could be another objective based experience.
