AMA threads are fun. They're particularly interesting if there's something special about you, or you do something fun for a living.
Example 1: "Just got back from an African safari - AMA" = cool
Example 2: "AMA" = not cool
Unless you're a prominent member of the community, I don't see how the latter will lead to anything interesting.
