So the University I go to (that is in the Bible Belt sadly) recently added these signs to a handful of restrooms.
Given some of the comments I saw on the post, I would like to see what people here think.
My favourite to laugh at:
If we're going to start being "inclusive" and "diverse" then lets not be so narrow-minded on other things... like campus-carry for folks with a carry permit and over 21. But, that's not going to happen. Only things pushed by the left seem to go anywhere around here.
Others against:
Absolutely astonishing - I've never seen a sign like this anywhere and why Murray State allowed such a small minority opinion to achieve this I'll never understand. Why is it that no one cares that many of us are equally (perhaps more so) offended by seeing such things as this kind of person claims to be by not having them??
Because being a bigot is more important....
Im all for making everyone happy and including everyone... But couldn't that money have gone to, oh, i don't know, sidewalks that DON'T turn into friggin oveans once it rains? Just a thought.
While I would love decent sidewalks... how does that even matter with the cost of a sign?
I'm appalled. Just because you want to PUSH your agenda on us does NOT mean you should. How about we label those single-toilet restrooms... oh, I don't know... RESTROOMS? Leave it at that? This has gone too far.

I agree never seen a sign like this before. Unisex covers men & women and that should be all that is needed.
Seriously?
Comments in support:
Proud of my alma mater for taking a controversial stand towards inclusion in a very exclusive area of the country. If you're offended by the equal treatment of others, then perhaps it might serve you well to evaluate your moral compass.

Hooray for inclusion! Good job

You're offended that people have a bathroom on campus they can feel comfortable and safe using, without having to worry about being judged?
I’m in the middle of protein purifications... so it’s up to you to keep this alive.
Stay classy.
UPDATE:
The University has further elaborated on the changes:
Over the summer, MSU has relabeled and added door locks to some of the restrooms on campus to make MSU more inclusive, in response to a resolution passed by SGA last fall. (The restrooms being relabled are only some of the ones with only one stall/toilet, so no new restrooms were constructed and some are even keeping the "family restroom" label.) We hope this helps students feel more comfortable on their own campus. This is an example of the sign displayed on the restrooms outside of the SGA offices.
My first hot topic! Only took 6 years... If only Bungie.old was still here and hot topics mattered.

-
I completely agree with having gender neutral bathrooms, but having a sign might be unnecessary. Not having any sign at all would work just as well.
-
What's wrong with unisex bathrooms?
-
Is that like a single toilet bathroom, or just several toilets all open to any gender? I mean... I don't know, surely there is a reason that men's and woman's bathrooms have been kept separate for ages, right? Safety? Comfort? Throwing them all together for "equality" seems dangerous and like a way to breed discomfort. I think I'd feel like I were trespassing if I went into that place and there were women inside.
-
Why was the old unisex bathroom sign a problem?
-
Edited by Seggi: 7/13/2014 8:43:21 AMprotip: if you get mad because other people are voluntarily using or installing unisex bathrooms or using the words 'gender identity or expression' then you are an asshole.

-
This is -blam!-ing stupid, there should only be 2 kinds of washrooms, ones for people WITH dicks, and those WITHOUT, I vote for two different signs, one with a giant dick on it, and one with a giant vagina. that will solve the -blam!-ing problem for those who are confused!
-
Its a sign for a -blam!-ing rest room. Who honestly gives a shit?
-
I'm all for equal rights, but this seems really unnecessary to me. I've always thought that pointing out differences furthers the divide between people. Not always, but sometimes. It wouldn't hurt having it as just a Unisex bathroom.
-
I'm glad the ten trans people who use that bathroom over the course of the year nolonger feel oppressed. Great change, men and women have an unfair advantage in identicying their bathroom and there needs to be a new toilet that is a urinal and a toilet seat combined into one mechanism. So that these ten people can feel comfy.
-
Just make all toilets unisex. Saves a lot of trouble.
-
What's wrong with if you have a dick, use the one to the right, have a vagina, use the one to the left?
-
If you have a penis, use the men's bathroom If you have a vagina, use the women's bathroom I don't see what the big fuss is
Political correctness will destroy the world.
-
I don't support this, simply because I think political correctness is -blam!-ing retarded, and people need to grow a pair and stop being offended by stupid shit.
-
Sexual harassment HOO!
-
Digression: how do blind people know that the braille is on that particular section of the wall?
-
Who cares? You'd have to be extremely dense for this to get under your skin.
-
>White people problems This isn't a problem in most of the world because there "bathrooms" are just holes in the ground.
-
Why are conservatives getting assmad about this?
-
I support this........but my reasoning is different than others (͡°͜ʖ͡°)
-
You can never have too many toilets.
-
Sounds cool. I don't really know why this is an issue.
-
I don't mind it. But I would have put the unisex sign because it's more recognizable.
-
For the sake of the almighty potato, its a -blam!-ing toilet. People need to stop trying to start wars.
