When Earth was far younger than it is now, it received an interstellar visitor. From a solar system ravaged by time and battle and chance fled a sad hulk of a Squid, glimmering with the last forces to be harvested from that place. It struck out across the imponderable pool of space with even strokes, determined to deliver the last progeny of its heavenly ecosystem to a haven in which they would be girded by the purposes of Celestial Squid far younger than itself.
When, after long, long belts of time had unwound slowly, it drifted across our seething globe, it collapsed into a low orbit and gradually dissolved within the atmosphere. Spreading its essence in blankets to permeate our DNA the Squid that Seeded the Seas ensured that a last transient scramble of flesh in its likeness would inhabit the Earth, as a subconscious reminder to the other branches of evolution that would behold them of the great forces which moved their reality; and as a grim reminder to the Celestial Squid that make up our own solar system of their own eventual mortality.

Edited by Elegiac: 7/9/2014 3:47:40 PMI enjoy writing these but if no one really cares anymore, this is as good a place as any to end it. I can write other things. I'll edit a little ending into this one. Thanks to any and all (beetle) who enjoyed them. Plus, a fair few entries seem to be missing from #Squidlore... I can only put it down to bans.
