How do you feel about the Expansion Pass?

Basically the title, I decided to forgo a poll since its not really A or B or C. Obviously we only have a basic outline of the content so far, but what are your initial impressions? Im a bit worried about community fragmentation myself, hopefully the expansions are huge but what people will perceive to be a couple $20 map packs will be a hard sell. People not willing or able to pony up the cash will split the playerbase, which just pushes people to the next game. I dont mind paying a $100 for a game that keeps me interested for two years, but I know im in the minority on that one.

  • For me, I say just skip the Expansion Pass and go straight for the Limited Edition. It's $5 more for a lot more content. And while, yes, the Expansion Pass is a definite money making gimmick, they can't have an MMO with dedicated support and updates without a way to continue making money off of it. Micro-transactions would either unbalance the game or just be a money pit for naive beginners just get a leg up for about 5 minutes. Also, cosmetic M-ts would kind of defeat the purpose of the armor system that is already in place.

  • I honestly wish they would stop this system that fragments the player base. Make things like multiplayer maps free & make the money back via cosmetic micro transactions. I dont see why the publishers dont see they could make so much money off of 1 to 3$ non game changing items. Or use the system where the dlc costs money at first then becomes free after 6 months. that way everyone has access to the same content and the community stays stronger longer. Just make up the costs with cosmetic micro transactions.

    • The season pass is fine by me in this scenario because it will either equal out to or hopefully be cheaper than a monthly sub as this is an mmoish type game. I just want an amount of content equal to the amount I am paying, and I don't really see Bungie farting out a bunch of overpriced, content deprived patches and charging that much money for them. I have faith in them until proven otherwise. I feel like they are on a shortlist of developers that deserves my trust.

    • As long as they are as packed as the type of 'expansion packs' (DLC) that was released with Borderlands then I'm happy. I do really like that they included these packs in the collectors editions. I already have the base game pre-ordered from FS E3 sale last year but I will be buying one of the collectors editions as well, especially considering that the expansions are included.

    • I have a sneaking suspicion that these expansion packs have nothing to do with the "Comet" expansion packs, and are more like mid-level DLC instead of the big expansions ala World of Warcraft. We'll probably have a long wait to find out whether this is the case though.

      • I like that they put it out there this early. It gives everyone a good amount of time to weigh their own investment levels while they process the game for the first 20 levels or whatever the cap ends up being. I think that there's a strong possibility that there will be some confusion between these being map packs or something bigger and more substantive, and that like you mentioned Fisty, is where there will be hesitance. But I don't think that fragmentation will be that big of a deal. This doesn't feel as casual (for lack of a better term) an investment just yet. And I'm betting that most people that are in it for the long haul will prioritize getting those packs. Having them included in the higher tier packages is a good start. Once they're there on the store fronts and advertised, I think that people will grab them up with little hesitation.

        • I'm getting it with the LE, but I really hope that they're worth the $20 individually. Five MP maps, three Strikes, and at least one Raid (preferably two) would be my idea of worth the money.

        • I'm thrilled to hear they exist, to be honest. Ordered the Ghost edition so I've already got 'em. But if people are genuinely unable to afford them, well then that is a shame that people might get locked out of that content. I would feel bad about that.

          •
Expand your Destiny adventure with brand-new story missions, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer arenas, and all wealth of all new weapons, armor, and gear to earn.
Is there a queue system in place, or do you have to party first in this game (I only got to solo). Aside from fragmentation (which I don't think will be too much of an issue), I assume they'd want to be careful about expansion specific gear lest cries of 'Pay2Win' are trumpeted.

          • Has there been word on what they'll cost as stand alone purchases?

            • I think it's good news that Bungie decided to include the season pass in the Guardian Digital Edition, The Ghost Edition, and The Limited Edition. Having three different price points opens up more options for the consumer.
