I'm not sure if this link can be taken as gospel and that we really won't be able to name each individual character, but if that's the case and all my guardians will be called "Faceliss Man" and then "human male Titan level 7" I have a problem with that.
Bungie, Halo was great, playing as Masterchief aka John 117 was amazing, but that character had a name that was predestined for us all.
Activision, playing COD is awesome. In the solo campaign where play as military men within the story, but in multiplayer it doesn't matter what the characters name is, it's all about loadout and they are the representation of the gamer. In COD I WANT to be seen as Faceliss Man.
Destiny is an RPG, where you can create multiple characters, of different race and gender. Each one should not be named the same thing. Look at Skyrim, Dragon Age and World of Warcraft for examples. You can't give the option of creating multiple different characters and then not let us name each one differently.
I'm sure this game will be amazing, but please fix this, if not before launch then in the first patch. It's certainly an easy fix, every RPG has the ability.
And saying that it would cause issues for linking in the forums and Bungie account and xbox live or play station network... Just don't, we all know that isn't the case. Like an IP address, all characters link back to your gamertag, but each one is its own "person."
EDIT: As The Oz said in a below post
I agree. Even if it is just visible on MY system I would like the option of naming my characters.
. This is exactly what I mean, if everyone else online sees me all my characters as Faceliss Man that is fine, I don't care. I just want to be able to name them so it shows up in the menu and character screens, so they aren't simply "Awoken female Hunter level 9."
Please, see the light and give us the options RPG's are supposed to have.
Thanks,
Faceliss Man

I agree. Even if it is just visible on MY system I would like the option of naming my characters.

Destiny is not an RPG....It is a FPS with very bare MMO elements...It's not an RPG by any stretch so stop saying it.

Edited by sergeantawesome: 7/6/2014 3:26:08 AMYou killed it with "I love COD." But I prefer to use my PSN name for my character. Character creation would take forever trying to pick a name that most likely someone else has. And all of your characters names will be Faceliss Man. And Destiny is not an MMO, FPS, or RPG, its a Shared World Shooter.

No thanks, names are unoriginal as is. I really don't want to see "Joseph200" or and of his previous 199 brothers.
-
would have been nice if and after you create yourself...the name input would be nice :| at least my xb tag is quite fitting.

I know on the bungie website u can also have aliases, do u think u could just switch aliases b4 u switch characters, and then the name would change. I know this is stupid, and u would have to log onto the site every time u change characters, but that may work. please correct me if I am wrong about this.

No names for characters. Just your PSN/Gamertag.
-
YOU are the hero. Not your character.
-
I like it. Ive used the same for fifteen years for every game I've played and making alts is a pain. Now i have to come up with a different name. Because the worst part is sometimes i like the alt better and they become my main. Then its twenty bucks to switch names. Sigh. I was so happy when i made my first alt on the alpha and it kept my name. Thank you Bungie. Thank you. Thank you.
-
I'd like to be able to give my characters separate names. But I can handle just using my gamertag if that's what Bungie insists.
-
Doesn't affect me, I'm content with my PSN name. That being said it would be nice to name your Guardian, but frankly I'd rather have more character customization like in FFXIV.
-
Well with the PVE world being a blend of single and coop play, by using the same PSN id on all your characters, it makes identifying a player much easier. The game is suppose to be based around the chance for random encounters with other players. They may have been fun to play with but you don't necessarily add them to your play list. If they had different names for each character and you bump into them again, you wouldn't recognize them to possibly play with. On the opposite end, it helps identify people you want to avoid, no matter what character they play. Besides that, our characters have no real personality. There is no background for our characters. They are not roleplaying characters so PSN id work just fine. This is a shooter after all.

I agree I would like to name my 3 characters each something different all 3 being named legion is kind of bland and takes away something from each person. I would like to name just my warlock legion and something more fitting for my hunter and titan. if this happens I will be making 3 psn accounts and 3 bungie accounts just to get the names I want. that will suck but if that's what I have to do, that's what I will do, so psn will have 30 million new network accounts and so will the bungie site limiting any newcomer to 30 mill less names they can choose from when making a psn account. this will also eliminate any weapon sharing between my 3 characters but all well, I guess ill have to grind for each one individually. I am ok with that.

Lol your guardians name will be faceless man

Edited by H0RSE: 7/5/2014 5:49:10 PMI was letdown by the news that you cannot name your characters. Bungie seems to be really adamant at the idea that "you" are the Guardians and that "you" are the one trying to become legend, even though it's pretty common practice that in games like this, people want to create entirely different personas for their characters. Besides, you can make more than one character, so it doesn't really add up to me. "Hey, I'll join your team, just let me switch my character first. See, I'm playing this character that's supposed to be me, but I wanna switch to this other class I'm working on with entirely different skills and playstyle and looks, that's also supposed to be me..." Does Bungie have a fascination with narcissism?
-
I'd prefer people who see me to call me by my real name. They always seem to mispronounce my gamertage saying "Precious Metal" instead of "Precursor Meta"
-
I think your characters name is your Bungie ID not your psn. Atleast it sounded like that in the last weekly update.

Edited by AddTheJester: 7/5/2014 5:37:23 PMMy callsign was Jester 1-1 in Afghanistan, and my PSN is lx_JESTER_xl so I just imagine that's it's my characters callsign haha Although the two L's on my PSN are hard to see if it's L's or i's

The only reason it bothers me is because Sony refuses to allow us to change our PSN names. I'd be fine paying to do it (like MS does) if it meant I could change to a more preferred username.
-
Edited by ABeardedViking: 7/5/2014 4:06:45 PMIn the Alpha it was your PSN tag. So I am assuming its going to be your PSN and Xbox live gamer tag. Not sure why nobody puts thought into their gamertag or psn
-
Alpha used your PSN name. You don't name each character
