WARNING: THIS IS A VERY LONG OPINION-BASED RANT. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
I've been thinking about posting this topic for quite a while now. It's about the gaming community (in case you didn't read the title). As much as I love gaming, there seems to be many flaws with the community. By community, I'm talking about everything relating to games. Platforms, players, games themselves. There seems to be an increasingly amount of hate everywhere in the community, its almost undeniable.
Go to Youtube, pick a gaming-related video at random, scroll down the comments, and more than likely you'll come across a verbal firefight of butthurt, rage, and negativity. I don't understand why we came to this. If there is to be an answer, it might be the fact that over the years everything is becoming connected under a common roof, the internet. All humans (including myself) are ignorant. It's human nature.
And with the internet, I feel like we bring that trait with us across the digital bridges of the web, and establish our opinions. Speaking of opinions, how many of you guys feel like people are beginning to take opinions more as facts rather than actual opinions? Whenever someone says "This game looks awesome!" or "This game looks generic" there has to be that one guy who tries to correct them, although neither were right or wrong in the first place.
Back to games, it seems impossible to come across articles/videos of games without some saying "This looks like a rip-off of this and this." Select examples are:
Destiny: "This looks like Halo and Borderlands"
Dishonored: "This looks like Assassin's Creed and Bioshock"
Bioshock Infinite: "This is a rip-off of Bioshock and Dishonored" (someone actually said that)
And I can go on. This is one of the main topics that always get under my skin. Whenever an original, promising, new IP is announced, people are already smashing it on the ground calling it knock-offs of something else. Many people don't have faith in developers.
An example of this is Ubisoft after the release of Watch_Dogs. Whenever you see gameplay videos from The Division or Far Cry 4, there are those few who sarcastically say "Wow, I can't wait for downgraded graphics and a poor PC port!" They don't take note that they're in the hands of another studio, with new tools and technology.
Here's one thing that ticks me off the most: Us. A lot of us are real douches to each other. An obvious example are PC Elitists, this guy, and Sony/Microsoft fanboys. I would go on. I would continue. There are so many things wrong with each other that I lost count. But I'm going to call it a day and wrap this post up. But before I do, I'd like to look on the lighter side. Not all of us are like this. There are those of us who rationalize, and astoundingly don't leave a wake of butthurt and rage. Leave me your thoughts/opinions below. Have a good night. EDIT: I meant to place this in the Gaming category, but accidentally placed it into All Topics.
Destiny: "This looks like Halo and Borderlands"
When people say that they are not in the wrong. Destiny does strongly resemble Halo and there are Borderlands similarities to it. When a developer makes more than one series they tend to make them similar to each other. Look at Biowear. Mass Effect strongly resembles Knights of The Old Republic. Then there are cases where people with top of the line PC's being able to barely run the game.
