This was the first time I ever got a phone call from "Microsoft"
They said that the computers in our house cannot update anymore and they wanted to help me fix it. The person had a thick Indian accent and he really did sound like a fraud.
I actually asked him if he knew my IP, and he said no. I then questioned him and told him he was not from Microsoft and that he did not know shit about my computer. I even told him all my computers are working fine.
This absolutely scared the shit of me and it was the first time in my life it ever happened. They called my house first, and then my cell. It was annoying.
Me: Hello?
Him: Hello, your computers are having trouble updating and I would like to help you fix them.
Me: *confused* How do you know about my computers?
Him: Your computers might need updates to prevent future viruses.
Me: Sir, I just asked you how you know about my computers.
Him: I am with Microsoft.
Me: No, you are not.
Him: Yes I am.
Me: Ok, what is my ip then?
Him: *clueless* we are not the ip team.
Me: Thought so. I hate to be mean to you sir, but I can actually detect this is a fake call.
Him: I am with Microsoft.
Me: This is an unknown number and you are very suspicious.
Him: We can help you.
Me: I do not want your help, arsehole.
*hangs up*
3 hours later the same thing happens on my cell.
Me: HELLO?
Him: Hello, I am with Microsoft.
Me: How did you get my cell number? Are you that bored with life that you have to call my cell also?
Him: We never called you before.
Me: Oh dear god, just -blam!- off.
I hang up.
So yep, I was scared at first.
It has been going on recently all over the world. Strange that I was a late victim.

Got one of those one time. Did the same thing I do to telemarketers. Start speaking rapidly in a foreign language. This time it was very rapid german. Of course I did buy a vegetable chopper from a telemarketer one time because he ended up being fluent in spanish, german, and french. I was impressed.

Edited by Qwerty: 7/4/2014 1:11:51 AMNext time pretend you are an actually member of the Microsoft team. "Hello, I am hear to tell you about updates for windows" "I work at Microsoft, is that you Bill?" *guy hangs up*
-
MS usually puts out a press release when this crap starts happening a lot. Honestly, I would have just trolled him. Hard. Next time, pretend to be an Indian and try to sell him some worthless shit.
-
Lol they called me yesterday. Windows IT my ass.
\(•_•)/ praise the sun!
-
You should of gave him the copypasta that's going on around B.net That would've been a top notch phone call.
-
You're so lucky OP. You have no idea how many people have Windows 95 VM's filled with viruses they have ready and waiting just in the event they get a call like you did, and you fucking wasted the opportunity.
-
I got a call like that a few years ago. They claimed that there was computers viruses "in my area".
-
I just meatspin them
-
Just act like you are tracing the call in the background so that you can "send one of the teams in the area to his house".
-
Edited by SomeGuy: 7/2/2014 7:32:39 AMYeah we got one of those calls. Next time go along with it and do loads of stupid things and drag the call out till they hang up, keep going for a sh*t or something. Drop a ball into a bowl of water near the phone so they can hear it.
-
i have a vm loaded with horse and scat porn just for the occasion when I get called.
-
Edited by Daej: 7/2/2014 8:57:49 PMI had a similar thing. Except it was an indian man attempting to sell me "Premium auto-tuk-tuk insurance"
-
This happened me a few days ago too. Him: Hello, are you Mr. C? Me: Who? No. Him: *hangs up*

Edited by qy: 7/2/2014 7:00:55 AMAll you need in order to fix this is a grenade launcher and a reciprocating saw, and their location of course.

'Hi were from Macrohard'

ya people are -blam!-ing assholes. I got a phone call in my hotel one night while away on work. Guy with southern accent telling me the power went out and they needed to update payment operation. Called me at 11 at night and i was sleeping, exhausted ( During hurricane sandy in NY) and almost gave him my card. He was tricky too. Tried telling me i could come down to the front desk if i wanted but i could just do it over the phone and go back to bed. It took me a min to shake the grogginess and tell him to -blam!- off. I stormed down stairs, bunch of indian ppl workin there. Asked about it. And they denied it. I was so pissed they woke me up trying to take my money.
-
So I was trolling this guy, to try and convince him I am Microsoft.
-
I read that in an Indian voice FYI
-
Same thing happened to me. They called around 4 times until they quit.
-
Here's another.
-
Just request an english speaker and hang up.
-
That's fishy as -blam!-. Since I work at a security company, I know exactly what I'll legally need from a representative to verify legitimacy. If they fail to verify on my end, it's a red flag that it is totally a scam.
-
You've got to at least watch the last few minutes of this... Lol
-
Responding back with Jehovah's Witness responses makes them hang up faster than you can say, "Hello, would you like to hear about our-"
-
Had the same thing happen to me with some Indian guy asking for my bank account info or something like that? I think the Indians are out to get us.
-
How did they get your number because that's the part that seems weird.
