We should totally spend billions of dollars on a pointless sport while neglecting the hundreds of millions of people who are suffering.
Why is selfishness such a rampant disease in society? Human greed can easily be eradicated with intelligence and compassion. People have way more than they need, and we easily have enough in this world to ensure that everyone is housed and has water and food. The very basic needs to even survive.
Edit: For anyone interested, here is the portion of the World Cup the media will not show you.

Oh shut the -blam!- up
-
It's okay because sports > poverty
-
For all you retards saying you don't care, remember that poverty affects everybody. It creates crime that spills into other nations, it causes cartles which smuggle drugs into other countries, it causes desperate people that go through illegal immigration. Keep talking your stupid shit and fail to realize poverty puts a strain on all people
-
I'm aware of the abuses many Brazilian people have taken in preparation for the world cup, but complaining about isn't the way to raise awareness. And last time I checked, football (soccer) is by no means a pointless sport. You may not like it,but billions of people do and the World Cup brings people from all over the world together. It's one if the few languages that just about anyone can speak. Calling it pointless is an insult.
-
Do you ever stop bitching?
-
Just so you children are aware, you do not have to be a perfect human being in order to inform others of the truth. You guys try to act tough by instilling the blame on the individual who is trying to make others aware of an issue. I also find it hilarious how the majority of the idiotic kids on this forum are not intelligent enough to argue with me, so they try and resort to calling me a man or a freak. Well screw all of you, I am leaving this forum for a while. I will keep in contact with people here who actually matter.

I've refrained from posting in this thread because it's a comflict of two large interests of mine. Saying sports are for "Rich men" is blatantly wrong and immature. More people play or watch soccer than believe in Islam. The World Cup is a globally unifying event, and people should be excited to watch it. Even as someone who doesn't follow the sport, I'm excited for it. That being said, it should not have been held in Brazil. They don't have the financial infrastructure to handle FIFA's demands, and their obvious abuses they've laid on their citizens are horrific. The silver lining to the situation is that the Brazillian government was exposed on a global scale, due to the immensity of the World Cup. Since people in almost every nation watch the cup, the government can't hide what they've done. While they've evicted thousands of people, and taken millions of dollars, international support for the victims can build.

Edited by b0t: 6/18/2014 4:39:21 PMI think since governments have claimed responsibility to solve these problems, it removes the concern from everyone's minds, because "ah well, the politicians will handle it". I believe people are generally compassionate, we're just detached and compartmentalized thanks to superfluous and arbitrary systems that stand between us from taking tangible action.
-
Eh, I don't care about soccer. Only a few more months until the real football returns.
-
I like how people are actually attacking the OP for pointing out an injustice. Just when I thought people here couldn't get any worse...

Edited by IngloriousWho98: 6/17/2014 7:48:21 PMSeriously do you do anything else besides bitching and whining? God damn With all the time you spend whining, you could be saving a thousand homeless people I -blam!-ing hate it when you post dumb shit like this Because it's obviously so wrong for people to use money that they worked hard to earn for entertainment Because people can't enjoy a -blam!-ing game anymore without having to feel guilty for it

Brazil's government is among the shittier governments on this planet.
-
I also don't know what tourism is and how it can benefit the local area.
-
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
-
The problems of people in other countries are not my concern. I'm not a sports fan by any means, so I don't care much for the World Cup, but the Brazilians should fix their own problems. Just as all other people in poor countries should.
-
inb4someone mentions how spending billions of dollars on this pointless sport is going to bring in so much cash from the tourism.
-
relevant.
-
Well I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.
-
Why complain about the World Cup and not other things?
-
Because profits. Welcome to the world of capitalism, where sports are capital. Fortunately some of the players will donate their profits to charities.
