I have a question; How did Miranda, Johnson and the Arbiter get back to Earth before the Chief and Truth even though the Dreadnought left for Earth before they did? Wouldn't the Dreadnought get to Earth faster due to it being more advanced?

Yes. Actually, 343i explained this in their video on Waypoint that covers what happened between Halo 2 and 3. He didn't want to take it to the portal generator with the Chief still a threat.
