Well then.....since I have been diving into most every video I can find on Destiny since the Alpha launch and such; I came across the above video: Part 2 of an alpha run. At 00:43 he hovers over the only PVP selection the alpha allows you, you find out that you MUST have a Playstation Plus subscription to be able to access it.
Then at 02:03 as he goes to check on the available missions down on Earth he finds the Devils Lair, of which we've seen videos of. It's a 'Strike' , their version of your basic 3 player (A full Fireteam/group) Dungeon with loot at the end. Also requires a Playstation Plus Subscription to take part in.
Now....with that being confirmed, we can gather that the Raids, the even harder more challenging group content that will require probably two to three full Fireteams to accomplish, ALSO require Playstation Plus to take part in.
So...Bungie has kept their word in saying that THEY won't charge us a subscription fee to play Bungie....that it will be free to play. But the fact that sony requires us to pay them to take part in anything beyond campaign missions and exploration is kind of a way around that statement, now isn't it?
I'm quite unhappy with this outcome, though you better believe I'll probably pay anyway....it's only 10 bucks a month. I was kind of hoping this game would be -almost- free though. The only thing I am NOT sure of is that this was a Playstation 4 run. I am told by a good friend that Playstation Plus might only be required for PS4 Alpha/Beta and perhaps not for PS3. Still....come launch; I'm pretty sure Playstation Plus and/or XBox Live subscriptions will be required for those modes I mentioned above.
UPDATE: After an hour or so of delving around Bing and google I have located solid evidence from Sony forums that states only the next gen consoles (PS4 and XBoxOne) require a mandatory PS+ or XBoxGold membership respectively to play online games; weither the games themselves are F2P or not. The same does NOT hold true for the older gen consoles of PS3 and Xbox360. They quoted that the ps3 will remain unchanged in this fashion. The demo above is a PS4 Alpha test....so I currently believe the following:
-Single player and cooperative campaign missions will be free across the board.
-Cooperative Raid and Strike missions as well as PVP will be free for PS3 and users. Unsure about XBOX360 players as gold is usually required anyway for online games.
-Cooperative Raid and Strike missions as well as PVP will require a Playstation Plus or a XBoxLive subscription to access for the PS4 and XBox1 players respectively.
Hopefully this solves any confusion.

Edited by Belatar: 6/30/2014 5:47:17 AMThis is off topic but just to brag a little ESO will not require ps plus in addition to the monthly fee. Not the same story for Xbox. Live gold is required in addition. to I apologize for being a braggart.

There is no subscription, ps+ and xboxlive is required to play online for all but the ps3

You need gold for both xboxs. As for Playstation plus you only need it for Ps4.
-
are you sure you don't need xbox live gold for 360? cuz the 360 was the one that started the console trend of having to pay a subscription for online multiplayer, wasn't it? so it would seem odd imo that destiny wouldn't need it for pvp n strikes, n the other modes that would require it on the current gen... but i know for sure ps3 won't require it since it never did :P

You can play story missions and free roam without it. However you will need it to play any other game modes and I believe in order to play with other players as well.

This doesn't clear up any confusion, because you're wrong in many aspects. Plus will NOT be required at all on the PS3. For the 360 and X1, they will either follow the PS4, in that gold will only be required for strikes, raids and pvp, or the entire game will require gold. Since the entire game is online, and MS has a history of requiring gold in situations that plus isn't required, that's a possibility. What isn't possible, is that pvp on the 360 won't require gold. And finally, if you're paying $10 a month you're a -blam!-ing idiot. Seeing as you can routinely get an entire year for $30-40.

Ps plus and such is needed to join fireteams strikes and raids thats it

Edited by maxgm0ney: 6/29/2014 10:40:29 PMU must have a subscription. Look at MoreConsole, he says something about it.

I keep hearing mixed statements that you need Xbox Live Gold to play any part of Destiny, and then I hear that the campaign does not require Xbox Live Gold, but that it is required for multiplayer. I hope I can play campaign without needing xbox live gold.

It's no different from any other game, really. You need their service to access online features of a game. Xbox Live isn't needed for campaign, but is for PvP. PS+ is needed for certain aspects if not all of them as well. It's the point of the service, after all.
I am told by a good friend that Playstation Plus might only be required for PS4 Alpha/Beta and perhaps not for PS3.
There's no reason to think that.
