Most were exterminated by the Forerunners. Some were fled beyond the reach of the Forerunners, and others turned them into dust that could regenerate their past forms. Time rendered the dust defective, and from it came the Flood.

Alright, so is the gravemind, or graveminds, precursors?

They are definitely connected in some way. To the extent of being the same? I don't know. The Primordial was a Gravemind, yet he arrived in the galaxy in 9,000,000 BCE, 8,890,000 years before the Flood came into existence.

No, Keyminds form when the Flood have consumed the entire biosphere of a world. In essence, they are Graveminds that cover the surface of a planet.
