So, today I got the chance to play a full evening's worth of Destiny. I little background about my gaming experience, I have been playing Halo since 2006 (started with CE, though.) I played primarily Xbox 360 last gen. I would give The Amazing Spider-man 2 a 2/10, Halo 2 a 6/10 and Uncharted 2 a 8/10 (use these scores for reference.) I was one of those people who was disinterested in Destiny since last year's (2013) E3 presentation.
So, like everybody else, I downloaded the game and started it up. It asks you to adjust the brightness, screen format, etc. Pretty standard. It then asks you to link to your Bungie.net account (which is something I skipped, so if anyone knows how I can do this part over, let me know!)
You then proceed to create your own guardian. Right off the bat, I was astonished with the amount of detail you could put into your character. It's along the lines of Mass Effect, but it goes even further than that. You can customize lip colour, for christ's sake!
I went with Titan as my first choice in character (I will be using a different class per day, and on the last day, I'll use the one I feel the most comfortable with.)
The game loads you into a fairly easy campaign mission. Dinklage is talking you through it (his voice acting is atrocious, still) and you make your way to a Satellite facility.
This is where I talk about the only okay thing in the game: the gunplay. It feels like a dated version of Halo with ADS. It's not bad at all, though. It's fun. It's just not as far above average as the rest of them game is.
After you play that campaign segment (which you can skip, but encourage you not to for reasons I'll explain), you're instructed to go back to the Tower. And my god, what a sight.
The social aspect of this place is beyond belief. Moving around in the tower is awesome. It's 3rd person, so you can see how awesome your guardian looks. The helmet is off, so those facial features you edited before aren't wasted. You can meet and greet with your friends, buy and sell weapons, armor and materials. You can visit the loading bay and talk to the quartermaster about buying different vehicles (yes, plural).
Or you can go check out the different factions available to you. In my version, the only ones I was able to visit were new Monarchy (which was my favourite, anyway) and Dead Orbit. Each faction has specific weapons, armor, emblems, and other stuff you can buy as propaganda pieces.
Each class has it's own leader (Titan's leader being that obnoxious narrator I made a thread about a few weeks back) that gives you missions in the story (I'm guessing).
When you're done sight-seeing (which I wasn't finished for in the hour and a half I was in the tower), you can check out the bounty list for daily challenges to complete. The difficult of these challenges was a little too steep for me. but I'm not the greatest player in the world. I'm sure as we grow accustomed to these challenges, they'll be worth the effort.
The best was when I was waiting for a buddy of mine to join my fireteam, and he seamlessly joined the tower session as I was sitting on the edge of a cliff, enjoying the view of the traveler in the distance.
My only complaints: leveling up is difficult and takes time
strike was WAY too hard unless you have 3 level 6 players or higher
exploration area is very small in comparison to what we were promised (it's about the size of the level Exodus from Halo Reach.)
If you're still skeptical about the game because you haven't played it yet, listen to me: it's absolutely great. It hooked me as soon as I got a rare piece of armor. It makes you feel special when you get messages asking me where I obtained my bloodstained helmet. It really could be a contender for GOTY.
(Please tell me if I made any spelling mistakes, I don't want to read over this. I'm tired from all the Destiny playing XD)
What do you guys think of it so far?

Wow.....I can't even.......

Halo 2 a 6/10?? What is wrong with you my friend??

I agree that this game is looking much better than what it appeared during the devil lair "infosplosion." Looks like Bungie's vision is aiming way higher than GoTY. More importantly, Dinklage and especially reddick voice acting is adding to the experience, and is def worth whatever they got paid. I much prefer their voice acting to 95% of other gutter performances that are typical in games.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. I saw some footage of people driving their private vehicle around, specifically moving through narrow passages very easily. It handled like an agile Halo ghost, which raised the question, can you Splatter with it?
-
I'm happy with it, looking forward to trying Defender for my Titan. If I had one complaint it would be the loading times. It becomes a chore moving from place to place. Although you can buy pretty ships to change the aesthetic... Not sure that's enough.
-
Odd enough, I thought it was kinda boring.

I know I had a blast. Personally I did not get to play anywhere near as much as I wanted to but it was fun as hell none the less. I look forward to testing out a new class tonight myself. If anyone remembers were to post bugs/glitches please let me know as well. When playing last night I was double jumping when I hit my head on somthing not there. Gona go exploring again to try and find it so I may report it's actual location. Also to gamers doing the alpha, keep an eye out for dead ghosts. I myself have found 2. If you would like to know were they are please message me and I'll be more then happy to show you in game. My the light be with you my fellow guardians.
-
Well it is a lvl 6 strike with higher lvl enemies in it. I like that its not too easy
-
How can you not live dinklage's voice, it brings me memories of game of thrones :)

Curious, but has anyone encountered a public event yet? Idk if they're in the Alpha, but I was wandering around and a drop shit rolled up on me. Only a few fallen came out and I handled it...but I was hoping to see some other guardians. I still haven't encountered any other players in the world either.

It was fun while it lasted. The servers are busted. Already. Is this a portent of what's to come?

In my own opinion the game was very good better than I expected to be honest, I love how difficult it is to level up because it makes you work hard for greatness! I'm sure quests and what not will help you level faster but from what we have been given a small taste of is satisfying! The incredible detail to the world is jaw dropping I can pretty much go anywhere and I even found a few secret ways around which were interesting but I was certainly under level to take on the enemy! Getting around is easy and fun I feel like I'm on a speeder in Star Wars but a lot faster! The guns are awesome and all unique from what I've found so far! Joining a fire team with your buddy's is so seamless it's simply amazing no longer do you have to go somewhere to meet up then go out they can join right away with you! The public events are awesome and the fact it's spontaneous is exciting! Another small thing I've noticed that was unique was after killing a squad, they didn't just respawned a ship flies in and drops off new ones, no more ghosts randomly spawning and attacking you, you know it's coming! Hahaha well put together and I'm excited to see what the other classes are about, so far in a warlock and love the devastating power I have! Can't wait to see what the beta has to offer and hopefully out guardians can carry over to beta to the final product. Gives us a fair advantage ;-)

I hope the game stays hard . Destiny has no aim assist which is really good especially for MP,also MP is bitching too.The AI is pretty good they react differently in different situations, example, the hive will charge you but if you kill a few ,the ones charging will flee. Guns have recoil, none of that casual Titanfall crap. Pretty much what Bungie has said is true about Destiny
-
Glad the ps owners are enjoying the alpha. Are the controls smooth? And is there aim assist?
-
How can I sell items to vendors? Or am I not able to?
-
I played the game for 5 hours yesterday. It's an awesome game I love every minute of it. The graphic it great, the environment is beautiful. I played the warlock. I need to master my aiming when it comes to the super ability because I usually aim past the enemies. Thank you Bungie for this game.

I thought it was just a good game until I was exploring and encountered another player, a warlock. Without chatting we waved to eachother and agreed to explore a cave together. We pushed through to find ourselves at public event. It was awesome. Oh and the crucible is a lot of fun. I am constantly on the grind to find new loot to outfit my hunter the way I want. My only complaint would be how hard it is to get shaders. Adjusting the color scheme of my hunter was something I was looking forward to, but unfortunately it is incredibly difficult to unlock this simple customization option. Overall the game so far is great and I think it has huge potential.

Do you know why we would need to link our Bungie account? Here's my reason for asking: I will be playing the Beta on my Xbox One. But, later on, I will be picking up a PS4 for Destiny. I plan to switch my preorder after the Beta. If I have to link my account to the Xbox Beta, do I miss out on stuff in the final game on the PS4? I'm not sure if you can answer, but any help would be appreciated.

Nice thread man! Good to know there are people who appreciate the game and also have constructive criticism out there.

Hey I just wanted to say I played the alpha all night long. The exploration is HUGE. Some paths that lead to new areas aren't as obvious as you might like but I was able to find myself from that first mission all the way to the highway of abandoned cars we saw in the demo last year at E3. For those who are true explores I can not express the gratification gained from finding a loot chest expertly hidden. As for the gunplay I would say the only thing that ties it back to halo for me are the sniper rifles. they all have a small circle right in the middle vs a crosshair. The hip fire is no longer dead on. All in all the game is looking great and the fusion rifles are an interesting twist on guns that gamers have come to love.
-
PVP is incredible. It's the most fun I've had since the days of Halo 2. The frame rate has been solid. The overall UI is stunning.
-
I think it plays very well! It's obviously just the alpha so it's very limited in content and still not even close to how amazing the final product will be, however for it being only the alpha... It's pretty freaking nice! I can definitely say that I will be playing this game for a long ass time! The only complaint I have so far would be the fact you can't revive yourself when your playing solo! What I mean by that is, for example borderlands, once your lose all your health you crawl and are put on a timer. If you can kill an enemy before the time is up you revive yourself! It's very nice and I am disappointed it's not included in destiny but life goes on!

You say the exploration part is lacking and that its small, but actually its quite large, you really have to look and explore to get everywhere, like have you gotten to the refinery? Or have you seen the Hive Ogre? Theres alot to see and explore, you just have to spend some time otherwise you miss out

Can someone tell me how to join a faction?
