What were the Precursors' plans for humanity? What about the forerunners? What about the Milky Way Galaxy?

 • Their plan was for us to inherit the Mantle. With their extermination by the Forerunners, their current plan is to test us for the Mantle by a Flood onslaught.

 • But the humans defeated the flood at the end of Halo 3. What now? Do they still have plans for humanity?

 • That wasn't the Flood onslaught. That was just a minor outbreak.

 • So can we expect to see more flood combat in future Halo games?

 • Yup, at the end of Primordium we get a nice little prophecy from the Timeless One that sets up the central conflict of the Reclaimer Saga.
"The decision is final. Humans will replace you. Humans will be tested next. [...] It is the way of those who seek out the truth of the Mantle. Humans will rise again in arrogance and defiance. The Flood will return when they are ripe – and bring them unity. [...] Misery is sweetness. Forerunners will fail as you have failed before. Humans will rise. Whether they will also fail has not yet been decided. [...] We are the Flood. There is no difference. Until all space and time are rolled up and life is crushed in the folds... no end to war, grief, or pain. In a hundred and one thousand [years]... unity again, and wisdom. Until then – sweetness."
