Same reason why master chief is wearing the stupid Mk.4 from Halol legends and not the standard Mk.4 he wore canonically like the ones in Halo Wars. It's all a big mess up

Officially, MJOLNIR MK. IV was supposed to look like MJOLNIR MK. V with a larger fusion pack. However, as armor customization was introduced into Halo's multiplayer, it was mad that the large undertaking that Project MJOLNIR was included multiple iterations and variants of each version. So it can technically be explained that the MJOLNIR MK. IV we see in Forward Unto Dawn is actually a variant of MJOLNIR. It can also be chalked up to artistic licence.

I just say it's artistic license because there was a comic that came out some years ago that showed Master Chief wearing the same Mk.4 from the Halo Wars game
-
What comic?
-
I recall no such comic.
-
This. Whatever it was called

Ah my bad. My memory of what MK. IV looked like in the comic adaption of the Fall of Reach is off. I also recall that not all the SPARTAN-IIs were given the same variant of MK. IV at Chi Ceti IV.

Edited by Master Chief: 6/12/2014 6:16:14 PMRight, as you can see here, one of them is wearing a variant similar to Carter's from Halo: Reach, I forget his name though, I think it's Fred
-
Yup, that's Fred.

You can still explain it canonically by saying it's a "prototype" or something. I don't think Halo Legends is canon anyways.
-
Halo Legends is indeed canon. The visuals are of course artistic licence, but the story and what goes on is canon.
-
Was the Odd One Out considered canon?
-
No. That is explicitly stated as non-canon. (Thankfully)

Alright. I guess that's where I got mixed up.
