At Moon Studios, we all grew up playing games like Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link to the Past, etc. and with Ori, we wanted to recapture the magic of these games.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a bit of a genremix – It’s a ‘Metroidvania‘, but with a stronger platforming focus and light RPG elements, all set within an atmospheric world.
Naturally we tried to push 2D gaming forward on all fronts: We tried to make every single screen in Ori look like a painting come to life while making sure that the controls are still pixel-perfect.
We’ve been taking lessons from games like Super Metroid and A Link to the Past in order to really bring back this sensation you had when you played the games Nintendo was building in the early 90s. The level of polish and the execution of design in these games – we feel – was extraordinary. We felt strongly that children and adults today should get that same feeling again. Remember the first time you played Zelda or Metroid when you were a child? We hope that years from now people will also remember the first time they got to play Ori and the Blind Forest.
We also push the story angle really hard. We explored some new ways of telling stories within 2D games and we’ve been heavily influenced by Ghibli/Miyazaki as well as by great animated films of the 90s like The Lion King or The Iron Giant.
Ori is a bit of a coming-of-age story. The player is put into the role of a forest spirit, who – over the course of his journey – has to find out more about his role within the world he’s living in. We tried to create memorable characters in an atmospheric world and to craft a story that players will truly care about!
Well I'm completely sold on this. What did you guys think?

Art style looks excellent, I want to see more straightforward gameplay though. Looks good based off of what they said, if they do achieve what they want.
-
Reminds me of Child of Light (which has so far been my favourite game of this year), so I'm actually quite interested in it - the art style and music alone are great.
-
Sounds pretty good, will buy.
-
really, saw a trailer and it looks like another boring arcade game
-
The story seems interesting.
-
Totally going to be picking this up
-
It looks really neat. I'll probably end up buying it.
-
Hope it comes to PS4 or Wii U, but I don't see it happening. Either way it looks pretty great.
-

Can't wait for it

Looks legit great. So nice to see some creativity being funded by Microsoft for once, hoping they're moving in a better direction than they've been taking for like a decade.
-
Looks like it would make a better movie than game
-
I really really like the look of this. I mean it looks adorable as hell and it's going to bring in the feels. I'm getting it for sure.
-
So... is this just for Xbox One?
-
I can't wait for it. I haven't really been in to a game like this for years. However, this one looks very, very special. :-)
-
I'm honestly exited for a side scroller again :) It looks beautiful.
-
All aboard the feels train!
-
Looked great.

Fantastic! This is exactly the type of indie experience we need more of. Both this and 'Inside', look like they were made for console; not sure I'd buy these through Steam even if I could.

Edited by SkilPhil: 6/10/2014 12:33:38 PMI really like the art in it, really stood out, just a nice old school platformer that looks awesome. I also like the vibe and visuals of 'Inside', looks different and weird.

Music is solid.
