To be fair, anything after the second crusade was just glory seeking and plundering.
But yeah, The Sultans' armies lay waste to Spain, Italy is under seige and the city of Rome is about to fall, and Byzantine is being sacked and -blam!- while screaming for help so Europe's poor men sell everything they own to purchase a sword and provisions so that they can defend their home and later be remembered as religious zealots who for no reason layed siege to Damascus.

Yeah that's true. I remember reading as well though that the secular crowd was different from the actual church. Picture it like people acting in the name of their faith or using it as an excuse for honour and glory. It's not like the Catholic Church had their own trained army that carried out their crusades for them.

Actually they did. Even one of the popes wore armour and carried a sword. I shit you not.
-
thats actually really cool. i doubt he ever used it though. do you have a link?
-
A link to what? and he probably did, the old popes had private armies that fought,
-
a link to what youre saying. nahhh honestly i dont think important people ever really go out on the field to fight their wars. people who start them usually have others to fight for them. i imagine he may have executed a person once or twice but thats about all i can think of for them doing that kinda thing. if it happened like you say.

Why a link when you can use Google? Julius ii was one notable pope.
-
why make a claim when youre not prepared to back it up? |:

I'm not claiming anything, just stating a fact, a fact that you would have known if you learned history in a catholic school. But there's a Google task bar on your browser... So use it.
