Ok, when this game was first shown off, it was nowhere near my radar. It looked like another mindless shooter that tried too hard to emulate the 90s... Then as time flew by and more and more stuff was shown, it grabbed my attention. And not after playing, I can honestly say that this Wolfenstein is fantastic!
I dont know how they managed to do it, but they did. They somehow managed to take a game that was all about mindless slaughter, and give it heart! That blows me freaking mind while I blow -godwinslaw!- scum to pieces with my duel wielding shotguns. While I do that, BJ has some surprisingly touching, and poetic things to say about what has happened. It completely changes my perspective of him from the grandfather of The Duke, to a poetic warrior that can kick some ass!
The environments of the game are a bit linear, however, they do allow for multiple paths of egress either that be an assault, or use of the surprisingly good stealth mechanics. Exploring the environment leads to many secrets and Easter eggs.
I have not seen a lot of the story right now, but I can tell you that it is very well written! Which comes as a sorta no-surprise since the developers are pretty much ex members of Starbreeze (The Darkness, Chronicles of Riddik), and they are very well known for awesome shooters with great stories.
The only problems that I have with the game, is its finicky use of duel wielding everything, and having some FPS shudders in more demanding environments. While the game certainly looks good on my PS4, ID Tech 5 is going to need some hefty upgrades if it wants to compete with engines like Snow Drop, and CryEngine 3.
I am only a couple of hours in, and I am having a blast with it. I sure hope it stays this way till the end.
Review coming soon!
-
I'll buy it when it price drops quite a bit.
-
Doesn't look like its worth $60. Back to Bioshock!
-
Did you play the original?
-
I liked the original, really pumped for it
-
I see your game reviews are still terrible.
-
I LOVE THIS GAME!
-
I thought about getting this game, but I figure Watch Dogs will give me more bang for my buck. I might pick it up if the price drops.

Still using your alt to bump your own threads?

Edited by RomanGladiator7: 5/22/2014 5:03:04 PMJust finished on the second highest difficulty...disappointing ending to say the least. I really did wish you could pick up ammo by walking over guns though...it got so tedious mashing X so many times.

I'm certainly considering it <.< If watch_doges reviews come out meh, I'll pick it up instead and get Doges later <.<

The gameplay is a lot of fun, but the story and theme are constantly at odds with themselves. It's a weird mix of serious and silly, and it doesn't blend well. Think Schindler's list mixed with inglorious bastards. Each side severely impedes the other, the serious parts are meant to be taken seriously, but that is incredibly hard to do as 1 minute later you can be blowing -godwinslaw!- to bits with duel wielded lazer rifles, and vice versa. Honestly, the game is fun at the end of the day, but the story just doesn't work. Wolfenstein and old school shooter fans will find plenty to love here, but others might want to think a little more before buying this game.

I keep on hearing about "simple" stealth scenes and it turns me off the whole game.
-
This game is fantastic!
-
I actually highly regard your opinion. Thanks for this, looking forward to the review.

Edited by threefitty350: 5/21/2014 12:55:35 PMOnly got to play it for an hour or so yesterday. However in that short time it seemed like a lot of fun. Shooting -godwinslaw!-? Check Good gunplay? Check Surprisingly interesting characters that build a narrative? Check Crazy robot -godwinslaw!- dogs? Check It's a great interface all around and I actually enjoy the fact that this game keeps me on my heels a bit. The sneaking is fantastic actually it's quite satisfying to clear an entire area without any enemies knowing your there.
The fact that you have two separate "timelines" to play through is neat as well. Adds some replay value methinks.
Excited to get back at it.

I rented it through Gamefly, it gets here today! :)

$60/20 hours = 3 dollars an hour + Free replays. Pretty worth it.

Love the game!
-
I'm liking it so far! Good story to it in my opinion
-
50gigs... is it worth it?

Edited by Mmmmm Napalm: 5/21/2014 5:28:04 PMThe sex scene in the train felt really forced and unnecessary. That scene bothered me to be honest.

I'm contemplating this one just for a retro game experience.
-
Is Hitler in it?
-
Well, I have a chance to buy it for about $20 or soo would you say that'd be worth it?
-
But is it worth my £$€?
