Was it the pimp ass weekly updates? If so, who was the author of those when you started? Frankie, Lukems, Urk, Deej, ect.
Was it the forums? Who do you remember? I'm talking some legit long term member...like Obi Wan Stevobi, Impurity, BerserkerBarage (BB), or Anton P Nym?
Do you remember some groups that were the foundation of what groups are now? Marty's Army? Bungie Jumpers? The Frozen Minority? Thee Warriors?

There hasn't been a Weekly Update since B.net went dark. Those "Blogs" on the bottom of the front page are hardly Weekly Updates. I refuse to call them such until they learn where to correctly put their Weekly Updates on the front page.
