It has been confirmed that the character is male, and is brand new. Check out this link though - This theory seems pretty awesome:http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post?id=64954595&path=1
Now I'll begin by saying that in all honesty, Halo 4 was the greatest flop I've experienced in my gaming history. Not a good way to put a lot of faith into the start of the next Halo trilogy, that's for sure.
Anyway, that being said, I'm definitely willing to give it a chance, and will continue to buy the new Halos, as Halo was the game that brought me into serious gaming. (Though by no means do I consider Halo 4 to be a true 'Halo,' or at least not of Halo quality.)
Just seeing the cover does excite me, though I meet it with a healthy amount of skepticism.
The cover raises a question though, perhaps overlooked by most of you: who is the Spartan that mirrors Chief? Many of you probabaly didn't put much thought into it, perhaps just thinking it to be nobody really, but Halo has always included their main characters on the cover art, soooo. Judging by the proportions, it's quite possible that it's a female.
Main Idea:
The first thing that catches my eye about the new Spartan is the sweet-looking helmet. (I won't get into how terrible Halo 4's armor was) And as you observe the helmet you should notice that there's a distinct blue glow emitting from the visor.
And who glows blue better than Cortana?
(If you haven't played the Halo 4 campaign and care about any spoilers, stop reading.)
Anyway, you should recall that in Halo 4 the Didact effectively transports a fair portion of Earth into what I'll call "the digital realm." (Simply put, they are digitized as were the Prometheans, who are simply malformed humans)
Annnnd you also know that Cortana was 'lost' as the Didact's digitizing-vessel was destroyed, though she saved Chief. As I finished the campaign, the immediate thought was: "Oh, well I guess she's most likely been transported within the digital world along with the humans in (L.A?), so we can be expecting a sequel where Chief finds a way to be converted, and searches for her.
End of Halo 4 Spoilers?
Surely enough, the teaser was Chief wandering around and stumbling upon a Forerunner creature...thing, while holding Cortana's chip as something of forget-me-not...treasure..thingy. Memorabilia? Um. Yeah. Anyway.
Summary:
So long story short, it would be reallllly interesting if you find that Cortana is the 'Spartan' pictured on the cover. I mean, that COULD be a long stretch, but seeing as there's the whole "I've always wanted to do that" (when Chief/Cortana can actually tangibly interact) scene and all, as well as the Didact's digital converter thingymachine, it's pretty much confirmed (in my head) that the Chief will reunite with Cortana, and she may possibly be converted out of her digitized form.
So since she's almost positively set up to reappear, and the new character appears to be a female Spartan sporting a radiant blue glow, AND Chief is obviously trekking around Forerunner territory in search of finding her, would it be too much to assume that this new protagonist is perhaps not new at all, but rather Cortana?
Idk. Maybe I'm crazy.
But one thing I do know: It would be crazy-awesome.

lol halo 5 After what 343idiocy did with Reach and then with the miserable failure that is Halol 4. I'm done with the series.
-
hey guys halofollower here, as we can see from the new image master chief is in fact confirmed to be a hermaphrodite due to how he is standing, the new person is barack obama (blue visor/ democrats associated with blue. coincidence? i think not) who got frozen in cryo for 500 years. also the rocks look like the mushrooms from mario, so we've got a confirmed nintendo crossover. ok guys, now buy into my pyramid scheme. cya.
-
It's obviously Decoy Octopus pretending to be Gray Fox that became a Spartan.
-
I can't wait to fight that Spartan using quick-time events.
-
We all know Cortana isnt dead, she'll be back for Halo 6 at the very least, especially as 343 is finally strumming on the love notes that have been present in Halo since CE
-
I don't have a lot of love for 343i Halo right now but I kinda hope he is not sent to apprehend Chief. The idea of Chief going AWOL and he is in hunted down by ONI does not sit well with me. Of course this IMO
I wished Chiefs story ended with 3.
-
If you remember in halo 4 the prometheans under the control of the librarian glows blue and the new guys visor glows blue I mean it really stands out do he might have a connection with the librarian and he might have some forerunner DNA in him like the chief
-
HaloFollower here. As you can see the character on top of chief is blue. This is obviously Cortana as Cortana is blue. But if Cortana died that must mean that she was revived by a force powerful enough to kill her. This must mean the character is the Didact and Cortana in a hybrid mind. This must also mean that the spartan is an enemy of chief since the Didact killed cortana. And this must mean cortana is a bad person if she fights chief and if you remember she split into many different cortanas at the end of halo 4. This must mean that chief has to fight a lot of those Spartans. This must mean he has a lot of enemies as well. So that means the world has turned against him. Thanks for watching! Hope you like horse shit!

Its sammus!

Edited by Pheonix: 5/17/2014 2:32:10 PMif you look closely at the spartan (or whatever that is), there's an ONI symbol on its chest. My theory is that Chief is going to go on a journey to find something (of his own accord), and ONI is going to try to track him down. Since that spartan is most likely an ONI operative, perhaps we will get to play as them as they unravel the mystery of where John went and why he left.
-
I'm thinking maybe the UNSC turns on John for whatever reason. I mean Chief did disobey a direct order for the first time from a superior officer. Maybe they won't allow him to go somewhere and he does it anyways, then they send this new Spartan after him. Spartan IV uses all of the new advanced equipment and training to find Chief but it doesn't go as planned. They fight or something, then get into some trouble and the only way out is fighting through whatever it is together. Chief somehow saves the galaxy and then its over. Thats atleast how I'm picturing this will probably all to down.

So, Master Chief goes missing and your the Spartan 4 hunting him down.

The hero humanity needs. Take back the chip. 2015.

The "creature" in the Halo 5 video is a Phoenix. A Phoenix depicts, in a way, rebirth. What I find interesting about the new image is how the bottom is a bit faded and the top is clear. Perhaps this new spartan is John in forerunner tech. His rebirth if you will. Just a shot in the dark.

Don't worry guys. It's going to be Palmer. 343 want to give her a push to be Halo Champion.

I wouldn't be surprised if ONE more forerunner survived, or the didacts machine (the composer, FYI) releases one. However, the composer wasn't ever able to perfect a body, hence the mutant organic robots( promethans) weren't just humans by the way. Go read the forerunner books, that will give you some ideas.

Bornstellar Didact or his Human
-
Maybe he'll be a co-op partner. But how will 4P Co-op work?!?!
If they just officially remove 4P Co-op. That'll just prove they're killing Halo.
-
That Spartan is very obviously a woman. Cortana commanding a robot? Likely.

Edited by Trevelyan: 5/16/2014 6:00:58 PMI'm putting my money on Jun. Edit: Maybe Naomi. Even though Frankie said it's not a girl, Spartan-II are hard to tell apart gender wise. (Locklear said in First Strike he couldn't tell if the Spartans were male or female.) He could be pulling our leg.
-
I think he could be chief's replacement

Edited by CyberGama: 5/17/2014 2:20:45 AMCrimson or Jun Those are the only spartans i can think of.
L.A.
New Phoenix.

Not crazy, I reckon you could be right. It is a female spartan not a rookie as some one else posted. It may be Cortana ;)
