Annoyed at people who think "God" gives them things

So there's a person I know from a camp I worked one summer in college and this person is quite possibly one of the most determined people I know. However, this person always credits everything they have or have accomplished to God's Grace. BULLCRAP We all went to this person's parents house and it was on Smith Mountain Lake (Expensive place to live) and this person's parents were loaded. Like owned their own tennis court across the road from the house and had a private dock and boat. Again, this person is very hard working, but you can't tell me for an instance that a supernatural being had anything to do with what they have been able to accomplish. By no means am I suggesting they've paid their way through life, but a lot of opportunities are opened up when you don't go through life with money problems or miss opening doors because your parents can't send you to the camp you wanted to go to. It just pisses me off when people are that insulting. Own up to how you have actually accomplished these things, but don't give it up to "God." You can do anything in the world with determination and money. Literally nothing will stand in your way. But don't try and attribute it to an all powerful being that picks and chooses who can succeed by some random pattern. So naive. Well, that's my rant. Much more mild than I thought it would be considering this has annoyed me for years.

      So what I hear you saying is... you're a a person that doesn't accept/respect another person's beliefs?

    • Whoah there, buddy. That time I lost my car keys God really came through for me. Don't tell me he's not looking out for me. If he wasn't I'm sure I'd be poor and starving like those kids in Africa.

    • You need to understand that Christians attribute existence to God, it's a mentality that we are stewards, not owners, of our abilities and accomplishments. It ties in well with the fact that free will probably doesn't exist, you can't change your fate, you might as well be thankful for what you have.

Reminded me of a documentary on North Korea I saw where a German doctor decided to preform free eye surgery on a hundred North Korean patients who were going blind from an illness caused by malnutrition. When he took off the bandages and they could see again, instead of thanking the doctor they each immediately got up, walked passed him, and knelt down in front of a picture of Kim Jong Un and thanked him for curing their blindness.

So right off the bat you say that this guy is one of the nicest and most hardworking people you've ever met. And then you write a few paragraphs picking him apart because he believes in God and happens to be more well off then you. So basically, you're jealous of him. Because that's pretty much how it looks from here. Change your tampon, bro.

        • By no means do I mean to offend anyone's religion or any of the such. This thread just makes too much sense in my mind. A person, let's say a pro football player makes millions, and is living the life, well you ask him how he got there, "God got me here". Well that's not entirely true, you yourself, Mr. Football Player did the work, you found the strength to train in the offseason, practice, and became a good player through all the dedication and effort. God did not give you dedication, maybe others did, but really it was all the player himself. Now this just doesn't go for an athlete, it can go for any other thing in life. Overall, people need to find the pride in themselves.

          • God = motivator motivator = what/who gets you moving/determined I don't see a problem in thanking your motivator. I do see a problem in you being so butthurt about this. Let him believe what he wants. He's not hurting anyone.

              I'm sorry but
your wrong
everything happens because of God's grace and mercy. Now he doesn't just give us what we want when we want it, but he gives us another breath in the day. He gives us food a house and a family. I certainly would not want to be near the man who says "God's grace is bull crap" this means that you don't need Him to hold the earth in His hands or let you live any longer. God's grace is dependable and sustaining. If you think man alone can make everything work. Then you are wrong. He has a plan for all of us, even the ones that don't believe in Him
you I'm guessing
so do reply back to me I will enjoy this argument very much.

            • God opens the doors for us. He makes rain fall upon the godly and the ungodly, and Christians like to recognize this. I don't understand why you get so worked up over this OP. It's just a guy being thankful for what he has. It's certainly better than someone taking it all for granted. It really does amuse me how atheists get so upset over almost literally everything that Christians do.

There is a fine line between thanking your creator/praising him and attributing everything to him. The latter is a far extreme that stems from the former coupled with an over-zealous nature.* Seeing as I only have your angry anecdote to go off of, I can't really make a call on that. I do, however, think the latter is probably not the case. *See: North Korea (though not all such cases involve as much fear and direct indoctrination)

                • Personally, it's not the idea that God gave you everything that concerns me - it's not my place to judge anybody for what they believe. What I am concerned with is why they think God, if He exists, would care in the slightest what they're talented with, or how much money they have, or who wins the latest not-football game.

                • I definitely agree people's credit can get undermined by religious beliefs, but if you're doing it for your own accomplishments, I guess there's no point in stopping you.
