Take graphics, playability, loading times and netcoding into account - how good is the PC port of Dark Souls II? And what would have made it better?
I do not play Dark Souls on keyboard, so I cannot conribute anything in this regard.
The graphics are, in my opinion, really good - Of course it doesn't reach what we have seen in the tech demos , but that happens hardly ever with any game. There is still no change to the lighting. If you enter a cave in an already murky area, you still don't need a torch to see; In my opinion they should have kept it like it was in the demo. It would have been a quite thrilling experience. Hopefully there will be modders or even official patches that fix this. Other than that Dark Souls II runs natively on 1080 on 60 fps on PC and this is great!
The multiplayer thankfully doesn't use GfWL to connect anymore. Cooperative gameplay is now a lot easier and I rarely encountered lag while engaging in jolly cooperation. It happened only two times that I encountered rubberbanding and lag - checking afterwards one player was from Russia and the other from Africa.
Steam achievements are also enabled which makes them more accessible.
All in all it's a good port. A few more detailed options to change sound and graphics and complete eliminination of lag would have made it a great port.
What's your opinon?
Tl;dr: OP likes the port. Anything to contribute; opinions? Comment!
Edited by A Cheese Potato: 4/27/2014 10:11:20 AMIt's weird that they didn't change the tutorial instructions and button prompts to the default pc keybinds, it still shows 360 controls. Could make it hard for new players using keyboard and mouse hah.
