Some of you might say that this thread is the hundredth topic involving RPG or MMO elements in Destiny. And before I start, I already know that Bungie has said that Destiny is not an MMORPG but a shared world shooter as Bungie calls it. But if you are honest with the evidence that has come to light and the questions that have been asked, you can't help but notice the RPG influence in the new genre of games. I created this topic to simply attempt to bring together all of the aspects that are related to RPGs or MMOs.
Screenshots pulled from the gameplay walkthrough show that characters have personal levels. This unarguably suggests that the character levels up and hopefully the stats improve upon the experience gained. The weapons have rarity grades and levels. The rarer weapons have levels that add bonuses to the base attributes and the character learns new abilities unique to the weapon being used as it levels up. And assuming the character customization is as in depth as Bungie says it will be, I can safely assume that the armor has rarity and levels up as well (at least I hope it does as I think the more RPG elements there are present will create more replay value). And the way the fresh genre is described I doubt the game will be completed in a dozen missions as other FPS games are. Again the "shared world shooter" is a supposedly dynamically changing world that bridges the gap between campaign and multiplayer. If I can guess, missions will be similar to RPG missions. You will find yourself completing possibly hundreds of assignments and exploring dozens of areas finding and farming loot, leveling your character, fighting many bosses, participating in many public events, and facing many enemies as you experience the deep story that is going to last for the next decade.
Freely discuss all of the MMO or RPG elements there are or aren't here. I hope this thread can be a general hub intelligently discussing the relationship the new genre of Destiny has with other genres or games.
