Ellijay, Georgia (CNN) -- Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a wide-ranging gun bill into law Wednesday that has critics howling and proponents applauding.
House Bill 60, or the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 -- which opponents have nicknamed the "guns everywhere bill" -- specifies where Georgia residents can carry weapons. Included are provisions that allow residents who have concealed carry permits to take guns into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports.
GeorgiaCarry, which lobbied for the bill, calls it "meaningful pro-gun legislation," despite it being watered down from the group's perspective. Still, the group has lauded the legislation, which will go into effect July 1. Americans for Responsible Solutions opposed the bill, calling it "extremism in action."
Wednesday's signing came at an open-air picnic area along a creek in Ellijay, in northern Georgia. It opened with a prayer, the singing of the national anthem and a recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Hundreds of people filled more than 25 picnic tables, while others stood. Many were openly carrying handguns, and some wore National Rifle Association hats and buttons proclaiming, "Stop Gun Control" and "Guns Save Lives."
So Flood what to you think of this law being passed? I fact what are your guys overall oppinions on gun Controll.
Personally I don't think Mentally Ill people should have access to Firearms. I also think we need to limit the kinds of weapons accessible to civilians. Unless you are in the millitary or a Militia or you are a Weapons Manufacture there is absolutely NO REASON that you need a millitary Grade full auto SCAR -blam!-ing H.

Edited by BADMAGIK: 4/30/2014 5:52:28 PMMan, I should move to Georgia. Sounds like one of the last true America states.
-
I live in Georgia! Wooooo!
-
It is dumb to declare schools "gun free zones" so it was smart to lift that ban. The image I posted kind of makes a good point. Criminals don't follow laws so why would they follow the gun free zone law?
-
I don't care. I doubt anything will happen.

This is one of them.
bars.
Nothing bad is going to happen at that type of place.
-
Except we already aren't allowed to own full auto weapons without a very prestigious permit.
-
The nice thing about having 50 states is that you can localize the effects of whatever you do and see the results. So Georgia relaxes some of its gun laws, and the rest of us will be able to see what goes down.
-
Why would any government allow civilians to carry guns in an airport?
-
Natural selection/ Population control

Without military-grade weapons in the hands of civilians, how are they supposed to have any chance of fighting against a tyrannical government?
-
-blam!-en idiots. Bars, because being around firearms drunk is the most reasonable thing one can do.
-
why would you need a gun in church?
-
Look i'm pro-2nd Amendment and all, but Guns should not be allowed in those places. especially bars.
-
The guns in airport bit is the only think I'm worried about.
-
you'll be able to carry on a high school campus? why would that be a good idea? teens are a hormonal, irrational bunch.
-
"Roughly 500,000 Georgia citizens have a permit of this kind, which is approximately 5 percent of our population. License holders have passed background checks and are in good standing with the law. This law gives added protections to those who have played by the rules -- and who can protect themselves and others from those who don't play by the rules."
>Lives in Georgia >Can guarantee you I'm 1000% more likely to be shot be someone without a CCW permit than someone with one. Its all good in the hood. Well, maybe not the hood.
-
Only one there I have a problems with is bars because do we really want to mix guns and drinks?
-
First OP, guns are not the laser firing guns that you find in Call of Duty; You can't hit shit when firing continuously on FA. FA is only used for suppression in combat situations and is just a waste of ammo. Prohibition resulted in increasing gang crime, increasing gangs lead to the shit called the NFA. Hell why is it still even around?

Edited by Vicex: 4/24/2014 9:02:46 PM
INB4 Real Life No Russian
Unlikely, nothing is stoping a person from taking a firearm into an airport now except TSA checkpoints... and once you are past the checkpoint you are in federal jurisdiction, not state... so nothing has really changed there. I’m pretty sure that’s right... don’t hold me to it.. I’d have to confirm...
NO REASON that you need a millitary Grade full auto SCAR -blam!-ing H.
You can’t obtain a fully automatic weapon without a very strict license. It’s cool that you are scared of firearms, but if you are going to make an argument for, or against anything... do some research and know what you are taking about.
-
Give me a valid, rational reason as to why I shouldn't be able to own a scar-h.
-
In airports? That's just frightening.
-
I think its a little excessive, but the intent behind it is good. The SCOTUS might invalidate the airport thing underneath the commerce clause though.
-
F*ckin Georgia.
-
The Second Amendment right is one we need to protect. Hitler, Country Joe and Castro all took away the citizens guns before gaining complete control over them. Not to mention King George III tried... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDQQFjAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunowners.org%2Fsk0802htm.htm&ei=SvxYU-vKA7K-sQTC3oHACg&usg=AFQjCNFyVaNK1txi-ih34jTBeQwg0HDiYQ

Uh yeah this is a good thing. I'll bet my life Georgia won't have a mass murdering in a school.
