Is it dictated by likes? If so then why isn't it all white and blue rated threads dating from latest to earliest?
Is it dictated by hash-tags? If so why doesn't it change frequently? Weeks go by with the same threads up.

Does this tab have any practical use? Do you use it frequently?

From my observations of the system, the number of posts a thread gets doesn't particularly matter, just likes. However, a thread's trending potential decays rapidly starting the second after it's made, even a thread with 100 likes will usually fall off the trending page within two to three days. Another caveat of the system is that Trending only works for All Topics, it's broken for most other subforums from what I can see. For example, at the top of All Topics trending, you can see threads from the Flood entitled "Stop the Americans before they reach McDonald's", and "The Best of #Destiny", but if you look in #Offtopic's Trending, you'll see neither of those threads. I hope it gets fixed with the next big site update that will invariably come before the start of the Beta. We'll see :)

I'm fairly certain that it is a mixture of posts and likes. What would be considered more popular in the community which makes them stand out from the other posts the flood the front page.
