Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) has signed a bill decriminalizing marijuana possession in the state, following the passage of the measure in Maryland's General Assembly.
Senate Bill 364 reduces the penalty for possessing less than 10 grams of marijuana from a criminal to a civil offense. First-time offenders will face fines up to $100, while a second offense will be punishable with a fine up to $250 and subsequent offenses up to $500. Additionally, the bill requires third-time offenders or offenders under the age of 21 to be evaluated for substance abuse problems, and to attend drug education classes.
The state Senate gave final approval to the bill April 7 in a 34-8 vote, following a 78-55 vote in the House of Delegates last Saturday.
I'm glad this finally happened, it's been a long time coming. Maryland used to have some of the strictest penalties for pot possession, now they're reasonable. I bet everyone at my old high school was celebrating. Also, I bet the cafeteria had one of their busier days.

Edited by Wolvers II: 4/15/2014 12:12:50 PMAlright, whatever. Smoking weed's fine, I do it myself every now and then and I guess it should be legal. But these people who get into all the culture and what-have-you make me cringe. 'Aw dude I'm so high!' '420 blaze it.' 'Nothing like a bifta after a day of work.' 'I'm writing to the local MP asking him to bring up the legalisation of weed in parliament.' Get a grip. Smoking pot was a big deal when we were 15 or whatever. I laugh so hard at adults who make smoking it a big part of their life and a trait of their character.
