Tools engineer, I always like working the background stuff, all the frontend hacks and tricks make me nautious at times. Being an ideas person, I hope to eventually become part of the "spec-ops" dev team, which steps in when the regular devs look at the concept artists and say "you're nuts", and make it happen. I of course have not heard of a spec-ops dev team or a bungie skunkwerks, but I imagine they have one.
