Besides, I've been letting her live here, rent free, for just over a year.

If I felt neither of those things for her, I'd have let the day pass just like any other. Your ignorance to that is an acceptable excuse for pulling this "Last Paladin", "I have to be chivalrous even though I am in no way, shape, or form bound by the Code if Chivalry" bullshit, but just barely.
