Nice! Yeah, I did a bit of 3D modeling in school, and have taken it up again for fun. Making something physical out of it will definitely add a cool element to it!

For sure! I suggest doing something small first, send it out to shapeways or one of those 3d printing services, maybe someone local. Get a print in ABS or whatever material that a machine you might be interested in will run. That'll give you a clear idea of what to look forward to in your personal prints. 3D printing is an art in it of itself. :)
