Hey everyone, just thought I'd share this with you, and see if we can get a discussion going. Basically, I woke up and saw something on the news that caused me to cry, and if you know me, you know that I pretty much spend all of my time being happy (I've been sober for over a month, so not >that< kind of happy).
My question is quite simply, what causes you to cry, or become deeply saddened, that does not directly affect you? What actions or events in life, things said or implied make you sad? Not angry, or annoyed, but truly sad.
The story:
When I woke up this morning, I rejoiced in the fact that I'm on spring break. And while I'm failing a class, and slowly slipping in my grades, I knew that life was good, and that I can still salvage my mistakes. So I grabbed a cup of coffee and espresso, sat down to watch the tube, when all of a sudden I noticed that there was a live broadcast of a trial going on. The trial was in regards to Jonathan Richardson, who was found guilty today. In fact, I was watching live as each member of the jury was revealing and confirming their decision in regards to his guilt.
When the prosecutor went down the line, asking for confirmation of each juror's decision, I looked at the man who sat in the last chair he would sit in while free, and realized that he was finished. I cried. I cried because I live in a world where a man could kidnap, abuse, -blam!- and kill a 4-year-old child. I live in a world where a man can be sent to his death or imprisoned for life.
I didn't cry much, but as I turned the channel, I couldn't hold back the wave of horror as I realized what was unfolding in front of me. How can I accept this world, full of sin and disgust?
Today I cried because of justice. Justice, while a concept founded upon fairness, accepts the failures of man, and the fallacy of our morals. So now I write this, with no happiness in my heart, something that hasn't happened in years. I apologize for causing you any emotional harm, but please, please do not ever become that man.
I beg of all of you, let love become a part of your life, and realize that happiness is something that must be spread to all that surround you in life.
Today I will not be happy. Or perhaps I will, but it won't be the same, because I live in a world with murder, -blam!-, theft and deceit. And it only makes me sad.
I have a difficult time forming emotional connections with people I don't know. When I hear tragic stories, I tend to have a moment of pause, but not much more than that. I can't even tell you the last movie that struck an emotional cord. Just a bit too jaded I guess.

Remember back to when you were little, playing and running and just being happy. At this moment you fall on your hands and knees. Can you remember why you cried so hard? It's like; I never did anything to deserve this painful experience. I was playing and everything was well. As you grow older you understand the nature of physical pain in a compartmentalized way. If you have had your heart broken you'd know about the tears and the inner pain one goes through. Intense as the first mentioned Yet the mind hardens after a few times and learns not to let such emotions grow into thoughts. The death of a loved one. It never goes away. But in your heart you begin to understand that death plays a meaning in that which we call life. Not all tears are of pain and grief or sorrow But they have all something in common. They give you wisdom.

Barely anything makes me sad.

Edited by AIDS MONKEY: 3/25/2014 6:21:57 PMI don't think news stories like this ever make me sad. They just make me really angry. What a -blam!-ed up person, though.

Justice shall be served. I hope they give him life imprisonment so that he can repent for his crimes.
What actions or events in life, things said or implied make you sad?
If I want to, I can get -blam!-ing riled up about the instability and corruption most of the world finds itself in. As for a more sobering sort of sadness? Small acts of kindness, and I don't really know why. If I'm in that sort of mood all I need to do is look up "kind acts caught on tape" on YouTube, and it'll set me off; although I think being depressive puts me in that situation in the first place.
