I'd put this in gaming, but the question is relevant to more than just gaming so don't start...
Anywhore, I'll try to keep this short and to the point, as I'd rather not see your bitching about a few short paragraphs and how this is a blog post... I was playing SCV, some guy essentially called me a "try hard" to which I replied with some Camnator-esque bs. He then replied with;
If I wanted to try, I wouldn't have been in that room which doesn't matter anymore seeing as the host kicked me.
I forgot exactly what I said, something along the lines of he can either agree that it was a good game or stay butthurt about losing.
He replied with;
I couldn't give two shits about winning or losing, ask my win/loss ratio*, I just have low tolerance for people who fight to win rather than fighting for sport.
Which brings me to my point, how exactly is there much of a difference?
Given the very definition of what a "sport" is;
noun 1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
I really don't see where the line is drawn (especially considering that he was trying just as much as I was *and his win/loss for both ranked and player matches is positive).

Playing for fun and fighting for a leaderboard ranking You can be a badass and play for fun, and you can suck a dick at games but still go for the win. The difference is in the motive
