I keep finding ironies about Dark Souls II. For instance, how uncanny it is that Souls II wasn't released on the Xbone. Me and my friends jokingly say that it's not for casuals so it wouldn't have any place on the Xbone. But aside from that, there really wasn't any real reason for them not to include it on both consoles. Or is there?
Think about what's happening in the Soul's universe. The light is dying and going out, and the world and it's population are still fighting to the bitter end, until the last little ray of light goes out.
Now, think about what this means for Souls II. What is the community of Souls known for? Longevity. The first Dark Souls went on, for years after, on such a simple and basic design. Fanart, pvp, amazing speedruns and builds, theories like my own, and so on, all gave renewing life to the game and it's fans. And with this in mind, the devs made souls II more flexible for things like this, to increase the longevity.
But now I want you to think about what's happening with the 360?
The xbone is out, and for the moment, microsoft has stated that they'll still continue to give the services that come with the 360 and even add new games. But this won't last forever. In perhaps a year's time, maybe two, things will have changed drastically, and eventually all the services of the 360 will be shut down.
And with it, so too will the Soul's community.
But, I think, true to what's happening in the Souls series, the fans will stay. They'll stay until the very last moment. And this in itself holds some weight. Because, let's go back down memory lane, to the final hours of a well loved game by many, Halo 2. There were people that stayed right up to the very end, and they too in some sense struggled to the last. In essence, Halo 2 was the endgame avatar of what defined the xbox and a gaming generation for people.
And now, when time marches onwards and we come to the inevitability of the 360 finally going under, who will be the last man standing?
The Souls players.
Who will continue to fight until the bitter end?
The Souls players.
It seems to me, to be a poetic irony. Whether or not this was not the intentions of From Sofwtare, stands to be known. Perhaps they'll even boot up Souls II for the Xbone when the time comes. And maybe they won't. But one thing's for sure, there'll be Souls players until the bitter end. And in this odd way, for a small pocket and handful of players, Dark Souls II will be the endgame avatar that will come to define another passing of a gaming generation, and everything that came with it. Just like the struggles and triumphs of the Chosen Undead, and his fight against the inevitable. Just like the Lords and Giants, all struggling to to keep the light going, that much longer.
Again, thank you for your time.

Didn't they just confirm the PC version of DkS2? I'm betting we get a next gen announcement soon...
