As much as I do admire
The enthusiasm and desire
For fame and money beyond measure
This is not what brings a man pleasure
As you can have the money and the fame
And play society by the rules of the game
But in the end you will not see
Exactly what it means to be
Alive
With all your trinkets and gadgets
And posh designer tennis rackets
And Worcester Sauce crisp packets
And cosmetically futile soap baskets
Human flourishing is the name of the game
And that won't be met by staring in vain
At a mirror
As we slap upon our faces
The lives and livelihoods of a million races
To have a girl on your arm, pretty as can be
Only to pass her up at the next opportunity
Is to prove to the world you are but a fool
Following society's stead like a lame mule
As it is with love
Such it is with life
To hide behind one's computer screens
Is to live a life haunted by dreams
Of a better tomorrow where the sky is blue
The only obstacle here is you.
You can have that today, just don't be afraid
To look to others like you're running away
The world does not work this way or that
Make of it what you will and ignore all of that
Programming that caught you when you were young
And taught you to be better than you could ever become
"To be happy you must suffer"
Is the mantra of men
Who aren't happy themselves
Yet decide they know
What's what
For you to be happy all you must do
Is decide for yourself "Alright I am through
With waiting and waiting for things that won't come
And dwelling on things I have already done"
Now is the time
You are drinking your wine
With friends in a bar
Or in a lover's car
Not tomorrow
Not yesterday
NOW
Feel it now
See it now
Hear it now
Be it now
This is the way to happiness.
